Hatred for financially well off people?
Jealousy of people that have "made it" through hard work?
A misguided belief that anybody that is successful is a trust fund baby or had unfair advantages over others?
White guilt?

What makes some people believe that the right thing to do is to tax working people into oblivion so some imaginary playing field can be leveled. Why would somebody be "happy" to give more of their hard earned money to a government that has shown time and time again to be spectacularly inefficient? Taking good money and throwing it after bad seems to be a smart business practice with those of this mindset and I just don't see any logical rationale why somebody would think that way unless they were themselves sucking on the government tit.

Envy. Envy that is born out of pride.

Here in Eastern Europe when you see someone driving a nice car or living in a grand villa surrounded by terrible poverty there is a very good chance that this person did not make his money honestly but through illegal privatization of state assets or bribe giving for state contracts to build crappy quality roads, hospitals, etc.

So the solution to corrupt government is more government?

The depiction of a grand villa surrounded by slums is not what I would consider representative of a free market scenario.

It is if the market reigns supreme with no ethics exhibited by the oligarch class.

Do you have examples of this?

I think the elitist liberals at the top truly believe they are better than anyone else and would like nothing better than to have a class of serfs that they could preside over. Why the Joe average liberal believes in that stuff is beyond me.

Post-communist Russia as an example of free market capitalism?

quote:

Russian politics," declares Boris Berezovsky, "is Russian roulette." So, he might have added, is Russian business - although, given the considerable overlap between Russian politics and Russian business, he probably thought it unnecessary.

The very first sentence in your example refutes the point you are trying to make. Corporatism is not capitalism. Corrupt politicians is not does not equal free market. I'm sure in Eastern Europe, or even a place like New York or Washington D.C. these days, it is easy to make that connection.

Someone already answered this correctly, ENVY.

Plain and simple. Filthy, disgusting, wretched envy.

Many of the liberals are wealthy and it's easier to demonize the upper middle class and appease the poor by redistributing the upper middle class wealth to the poor. The poor win and the wealthy protect their wealth so they win as well.

I would argue that post Communist Russia is more capitalistic than just about anyplace in the world because the state has essentially ceased to exist apart from writing traffic taxes, not collecting the few taxes they are supposed to and maintaining the utmost of basics like air traffic control.

Everything else is pretty much controlled by the Oligarchs and the people who love them.

Russia is more "go go Capitalism and the hell with anyone standing in the way" than the USA is in my opinion.

Imagine if we took all the money we spent on X and made investments in infrastructure and education?

It's always that BS.

There is NO ONE more self-serving than a wealthy liberal. They likely got their money in ways they project onto others. NOW they project platitudes because they've got theirs and if anything they want govt to limit new entries into their club.

You don't have to look any further than Hollywood to see that. I can almost understand why a wealthy Hollywood type would be this way, hey I've got all this cash and now I can endear myself to the mouth breathing masses who will come see my movie because I'm awesome and I "really care" about their plight. Like someone said earlier I have no rationale why regular Joe liberal thinks this way, it's like working at Hooters and having all the stigma of being a stripper without all that bothersome cash.

A lust for power fueled by the greed, envy, and ignorance of a large segment of the voting population.
