Fantastic article written about the state of the fanbase and why most seem so upset. A must-read for anyone who calls themselves an LSU fan.

If this team can't bring you a little bit of joy, then why on earth are you watching? If nothing but a national title will make you happy, boy, are you setting yourself up to be miserable. Heck, by that standard, even an Alabama fan has been miserable more often than not.

No matter what happens in LSU sports, LSU fans will always hate LSU more than any other team.
There is never anyone in Baton Rouge more popular than the backup QB.
Also, I think one reason LSU fans are so angry is that they see LSU losing for the same dumb reasons over and over:
Playing down to inferior competition.
Not being prepared for games.
Not making adjustments when things clearly are not working.
Benching players when they're doing well and leaving them in inexplicably when they're struggling.
Not developing elite talent or giving them playing time in blowout wins.
Poor clock management at the end of games.
When you combine this with an Athletic Department that gives off the vibe that it doesn't really care about the fans as long as it gets its money, and you have a recipe for some angry angry people.
Also, Baton Rouge people literally have no life outside of LSU football in the fall.

Baseball fans are the happiest.

I think this describes a lot of LSU fans. There are some unhappy mofos around here, and LSU football is a symptom, not the cause.

Because for too many are assholes.
This was a post of mine from last week that essentially answers this question:
This was a post of mine from last week that essentially answers this question:

The point is to win it all.
Of course, LSU has been playing football now for 120 years, and we claim three titles.
3.
Does that mean that the remaining 117 years of football have been total failures? There was no enjoyment, nothing to be gained out of the experience of having watched those teams compete?
Our biggest problem now is that of those 3 titles, 2 have been won in the lifetimes of our youngest and increasingly more vocal fans.
Up until 2001 (which is really when the expectations began) those of us who grew up watching a solid but unspectacular program found tons of things to enjoy about the program. They are WHY we are still fans, and in most cases are why many of the current younger fans were brought into the fold in the first damn place by your parents...because for most of us winning titles sure as shite wasn't what kept us coming to the stadium.
I want to run the table and win titles as much as ANY LSU fan...but thankfully I have a perspective built on the time spent becoming a fan when titles were a hope but not considered a birthright. I'm also able to recognize that as much as it stings that our former coach is at one of our most hated rivals and doing the unprecedented, that it's just that...it's unprecedented! It's precisely BECAUSE he's doing something akin to what John Wooden did at UCLA in the 60's and 70's that I'm not looking to run coaches out of town or jump off a fricking bridge. Under any other circumstances and at any other time, this current run by LSU would be lauded. I'm not going to pretend it still isn't simply because BAMA has been better, because other than those dickbags there's not one other program over the course of the past 13 years I'd be interesting in trading with, and no one I'd trade the next 5+ years with either.
If winning games and being in the hunt as much as we have this past decade plus is not enough to keep you happy, or unless you'll only be happy is we too start winning at BAMA's pace or better, then it's time to concede that you will never be happy and move along and find something more certain of what you define as success to fill your time.

I'm not talking about being angry the minutes or hours after botching the Ole Miss game. I'm talking right now. From taking a quick look around the LSU message boards, people seem to be pretty darn pissed off right now. If you want to be angry, that's perfectly valid and I don't much feel like talking you out of it, but really... maybe you ought to consider a new hobby.

This team is not going to win the national title. It very likely won't win the SEC either. But it wins more than it loses and by any rational measure, times are good. I can understand being disappointed, but I just don't get the level of anger and vitriol. I'm not saying LSU fans who are angry are wrong, I'm just saying, I don't get it at all. I don't understand.

I wouldn't equate following/supporting a football program to collecting stamps.

But it is though. It is a hobby/activity that you partake in for entertainment.

So just learn to enjoy underachievement? Why you mad bro? That's how LSU fans should feel? 10-2 9-3 hell 8-4 if it sells tickets right? How dare LSU fans be pissed off for being irrelevant befor November.

This isn't about accepting mediocrity or any such nonsense. This is about making a concerted effort to enjoy the thing you say you enjoy. If a 7-2 team is making you miserable, you may need to re-evaluate your life decisions. It's almost as if you want to be miserable.

Its not so much loses that piss me off, its the manor in which they happen. I can deal with the UGA loss and will be fine with losing to Bama and possibly even A&M, but we have no fricking buisness losing to Ole Miss.

Some unhappy people like to defend their unhappiness as if they have no control over it.

This is exactly what the guy was talking about. You feel free to FEEL however you want, but if the current state of the program (it's recent past, present and near future) are not enough to make you happy, some of us are suggesting you might find something much more sure to bring you happiness...as college football as it's always been played, is never a sure thing and is fraught with far more disappointments than success (if success is only measured in titles.)
Regardless of how you cut it, LSU is still in the midst of it's must successful run in the 120 year history of the football program. Assuming you're not happy now...were you ever, and how long did it last?

I disagree. Maneri should be fired soon if he either takes a team to the CWS and is two and done or if he doesn't go every year.
