What would a starting lineup for Yugoslavia look like?

I was bored at lunch today, so I made a lineup of players from the the former Yugoslavian countries - Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro. It's basically the midfield from the Croatian team that just tied Italy plus the stacked defense from Serbia with a few others sprinkled in. I think they would definitely be a top 5 team.

Old dictionaries used to have a picture of the Yugoslavian national side to illustrate the following:

Would be a team full of great talent, but it wouldn't be easy to create cohesion between some of the players.
There is still lots of animosity between croats, serbs, and bosnians. Technically I'm all three.

I don't think there was much animosity back in the Prosinecki, Boban, Mijatovice, Suker era.
They simply were the most talented, by far, and had a flair for beating the best, many times very handily, and for losing to shite sides.
They were like a pitbull. You know that shits' gonna go off (as in awry, I don't mean 'attack'), you know it, I know it, we all know it. Simply, nobody knows exactly when.

Not much. Most of them know it was all political bullshite by greedy leaders, but some were sort of brainwashed into hating the other sides.
Croatia was so close to winning the world cup in 1998. I can only imagine how good they would have been as Yugoslavia.

I was thinking about this the other day. If a small country like Croatia can compete imagine if you add players from the other former Republics. They would definitely be tops in the world. Yugoslavia could have been a great nation but all those assholes from within the country could focus on was religious differences and nationalism.

Very funny, i did an extensive search on yugoslavia after i saw all the countries out there that didnt qualify. I recall them not being bad and being in our group in 98. I just couldnt remember what countries made up former yugoslavia.
And that team would be really good..

The Serbs did start the war. But even before that there was significant hate among all sides. Only reason the conflicts didn't happen sooner was due to communism keeping everything bottled up.

Agree. And not just on the team, but the attack built around him. Perisic, Pjanic etc are excellent players but they're nowhere near Jovetic. He can be special on a different level.

True. I am of Croatian descent from Dalmatia and my best friend is a Serb from Zagreb (who loves the Croatian national team by the way). I think many personal relationships have weathered the horrific events of the last twenty years but as nations it will at least one more generation before leaders from those countries can cooperate on anything. Ajmo Hrvatska!!!!

You should also include Ibrahimovic in this starting lineup. If Yugoslavia was still around, I can guarantee Zlatan would be playing for them and not for Sweden.
Also I would have Misimovic starting in place of Rakitic and have him come off the bench.
