re: Zoysia in BR. May I have a look see?

I'm in WBR. I've never had centipede, but I spot spray for post emergent weeds and use fertilizer about 2-3 times per year. It looks fine, but it could look better if I watered and fertilized more. I believe it would turn a deeper green. It turns green later in the year than centipede, but keeps it's color longer. It was sodded 2 years ago and has been good with keeping weeds out, but time will tell.

When I built my house I sodded with St augustine (palmetto). St Aug is what I've always had so I went with it. Fast forward several years if I could do it again I'd go Empire zoysia.

Where can I find empire zoysia sod in Baton Rouge?
Alternatively, is there any chance I'll be able to overseed the centipede with zoysia with any success?

I would go to the nearest golf course and remove the 1st fairway (Bermuda)

You might try Quality Sod for Empire zoysia

It is my understanding that zoysia is slow to grow from seed and overseeding is usually not successful. I don't know about sod producers in Baton Rouge but Quality Sod's website lists Emerald zoysia on their website.

The only way to keep torp from running is to use the landscape barrier that is made to stop running bamboo. It would have to be installed to a depth of 2.5-3ft to make sure it is effective. Good luck!

I've had St Aug and centipede. Got my lawn resodded two years ago and chose palisades zoysia due to its shade and drought tolerance. It has been my favorite sod by far. Not as temperamental as st aug and stands up well to my kids. Grows very well in full sun. Not as well as I'd hoped in full shade but has done better than anything I've had prior. Would highly recommend.

I looked on Q Sods website, shows Empire.

If you play golf go look at #5 tee box at the Bluffs. It still looks like the zoysia is on the back tees.
Not sure what variety. There are a few different types..

Depends how much time you're willing to invest in upkeep. Zoysia and St. Aug are the hardest to keep looking nice (esp with foot traffic). Bermuda will almost take care of itself once established.

House on the corner of Chevelle and LaSalle is zoysia and looks good. House on corner of Shawn and LaSalle is as well.
Hard on the bare feet.

So, I've recently taken a hard stand against the torpedograss in my backyard. I decided enough was enough and mixed up 2 gallons of roundup. That side of the yard looks like hell. The centipede is completely dead, but the devil grass seemed to resist the glyphosate a bit, so I mixed up another 2 gallons at a stronger concentration and sprayed again on Saturday. I'm just going to live with a hideous back yard until I don't see any more, then I'll decide whether to seed or sod.
The section where I have it in the front is even worse and the snobs in my neighborhood won't be okay with me killing the grass over several months, so I'm going to plan to resod with zoysia at some point. My question is, what's the best time to undertake my resodding operation in the front? I'm going to plan to rent a sod cutter to take out what is there, but I'm not sure if I should spray with glyphosate before moving forward with the zoysia sod. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Go Bermuda and be done.

Also, I'm only resoding one section right now, so I'm actually trying to find something that looks similar to centipede. I may eventually do the next section of yard, but right now I'm just taking care of the section with torpedograss.

Get some of this along with the surficant and bust that torpedo grass’s arse
ETA: you will have to spray a few times a year, and you need to get your centipede healthy to give the torpedo competition

I'm already past that. I require blood from that devil weed now.

So, I live in Tennessee and maybe things are different here than in LA but my yard is mostly zoysia (I can't remember is palisades or meyer, maybe a little of both). Anyway, there really isn't much upkeep to it. Once it's established, if you fertilize it there really isn't that much in the way of weeds getting through.
Also, the 2 of the more expensive golf courses have zoysia here in Memphis.
