Do you guys think a xdm 9 mm would be a good gun to use as a concealed carry gun?

Yep if you'll carry it every day and you're very familiar with it.

this is the key, if you're not going to carry it, it is worthless

I plan on carrying it everyday

the size of that pistol will be good for CC

I find the handle is kinda big for CC. They're a joy to shoot though.

Tigerbaseball,
I'll provide a differing opinion based on my experiences w/ concealed carry.
I bought a service size (4" barrel) Springfield XD in 40 S&W for my first concealed carry gun. Despite a good inside the waistband (IWB) holster and belt, I found out very quickly the XD wasn't going to work for me; it was very uncomfortable because it was too thick. I then started carrying a Kel-Tec PF9 IWB. Now days I mostly carry the PF9 in the right front pocket. My main carry guns are a Kahr CW45 and two 1911's (Officer and Commander size). The common theme w/ my current carry guns is how thin they are; the XD, on the other hand, is quite thick. Just looking at the dimensions, there doesn't seem to be much difference, but for me (and many who cc), the thinner gun is much more comfortable. Before committing to cc w/ the XD, I'd stick an XD (or a similar double stack magazine gun like the M&P, Glock, etc.) in your waist band and carry it in the house all day.
If you're comfortable w/ the XDM, great. If you find you're more comfortable w/ a single stack, you're in good luck as there are a bunch of nice single stack guns, especially in 9mm.

I think the double stack will make it a little wide to conceal carry.
Check out the XD-S. I picked one up in .45, but there coming out with a .40 and 9mm version soon. It's a single stack so it's not even an inch thick.

Why is that?

For the concealed carry license can they turn you down if you have never been in trouble with the law or anything of that nature?

The XDm is an awesome pistol but it may be too big for CC. I have a XDm40 3.8 and a tuckable inside-the-wasteband holster. I need a shirt that's plenty long and a little baggy to make it work.

No problem. Got it a week ago and it hasn't left my side since.
If for some reason you dont like it then check out the M&P Shield or the Kahr CM9.
IMO the Springfield takes 1st of the three though.

My 1911 is a Commander so the barrel is a little shorter than the full size (4.25" vs. 5"). It's not hard to conceal w/ the right holster and a holster belt. W/ this holster, you can wear the shirt tucked or wear the shirt untucked to serve as a cover. I don't wear the 1911's as much as some other guns because the 1911's are heavier, not because the 1911's are harder to conceal.
