I do need to note that I am making some assumptions on whether or not he's on welfare, unemployment, etc...

He might not be. But the fact that I have been off work for over a week (in between jobs, and delayed my start date with new company so I could spend time with my new born son), and I have literally seen him EVERY time I've been to Walmart or Academy's is suspicious. I'd say maybe he's in oil or something like that, but oil workers aren't fat like that at least from what I've seen.

Ok. I had to pull the car over for this one.

quote:

1. He's collecting unemployment benefits for not working. So...he's getting a profit from these straw sales AND receiving unemployment from the premiums his former employers have paid while not reporting the money he has earned from the sales. 2. He's not paying any income taxes, social security, and medicare from his sales. The rest of us working folks are paying our share but he isn't.

Is this fact or hypothetical?

If fact i agree.

I just dont like the govt telling me.......:offsoapbox: u get the picture.

I mostly shy away from the gun sellingmarket because i fear the govt. guess i just like the entrepreneurial side of the seller

You should be good on the uppers because they don't have serial #s.

You can order these and have them shipped to the house without a FFL transfer.

FFL or not, I would have no problem if the guy was selling parts or even putting guns together and selling them for people. But he's not.

Definitely this. Al Capone didn't go to prison for killin folks. He went to prison for not paying income taxes on his liquor sales. (illgotten gains)

The Federallies don't play when it comes to illgotten gains.

I'm just going by the OP on this.

I understand this sentiment. Problem I have with it is he's not legit. Selling that many, odds are he's sold some to gang bangers, thugs, mental cases, and criminals. Get a FFL liscense and do it the right way. And he's getting away with not paying taxes that the rest of us law abiding folks and FFL dealers hafta pay.

Uppers aren't a "gun" in the eyes of the law. Buy and sell those..triggers...stocks..ammo all you want. But running a de facto gun store without a license should be gone after. I miss the days when you didn't have to have a store front to have an ffl.

This fricking idiot just texted me. I texted earlier about one of his listings and then (at the advice of the OB, texted him again to try to see if he was an FFL). He just sent this to me:

quote:

The guy that I was holding the [Windham AR-15] for wants to push the time back to this evening and I don't think I want to do that.

quote:

I prefer to sell the rifle sooner rather than later so let me know if you are [still] interested.

He bought another Bushmaster right in front of me today, so I'm curious if he'll list both or if he'll only list 1 at a time...

This. I can't believe I'm reading this butthurt nonsense on here.

Even if it is technically illegal, though I don't understand why it would be (or why we as pro-2nd Amendment people would want it to be), it's not your place to rat him out. Your assumptions about his means of employment shouldn't enter into it.

Would you do this if he was profiting off of anything other than guns?

I dont fault this guy. If theres a specific law then ok. But this is america man. When does govt tell me ive owned something short enough or long enough?? Thats so commie of them.

There should just be a law against assholes.

That would settle a whole lot of problems in America.

Oh, and the only answer to this thread is:

A) He stops doing what he's doing, or

B) He applies for and gets an FFL and then continues doing what he's doing.

All the BS, It's America - let him buy and sell - is just a fallacy. The guy has a legal way to what he wants. It's called follow the rules and get an FFL.

Okietiger:
I'm curious... Is your idea of spending quality time with your new born son consist of bringing him out in this shitty weather to the gun counters at Academy and WalMart?

It seems like you and homeboy have very similar activity patterns - trolling big box gun counters - and you're a little jealous because he gets up earlier than you.

At least you're willing to admit that you've made some very broad and unsubstantiated assumptions about this guy, (unlike BVIF, or whatever his handle is). I can't look at a person and tell if they are on welfare, unemployed, a tax evader and/or buying guns with my tax dollars. Is your new job as a psychic?

The guy is breaking a federal law if he is buying and reselling guns as fast as he can. People like him gives gun control opponents their talking points and his actions hurt those who wish to purchase legally. He and anyone else can buy wholesale and resell. Just get an FFL. No sympathy for those that break the law and give ammunition for those wanting to restrict them more.

If it was against the federal law and contributing to the mass inflation and shortage of a certain product, then yea I would.

Correct, the serial #ered part.

So what's "federal law" is our measuring stick of what we'll report?

quote:

People like him gives gun control opponents their talking points

They get their talking points from their biases which they retain in the face of all contradictory evidence.

I first assumed that he was not handling these sales in person but mailing them to the purchaser's FFL. If that's not the case, I can somewhat see where y'all are coming from. But isn't that REALLY making the gun controller's point for them, i.e., guns are different than other products and we need a governmental agency with power to restrict our gun rights?

quote:

No sympathy for those that break the law

Does that only count for existing laws? If they ban mags and you see your neighbor sell one to your other neighbor, are you calling the ATF?

quote:

contributing to the mass inflation and shortage of a certain product, then yea I would.

So you're against free enterprise and the market determining a fair price for goods?

Also, this board has been full of people talking about how much ammo and how many mags they have flipped lately. I didn't see anyone giving them flack.

I maintain this is much less about laws being broken and much more about people being butthurt.
