The 2002 Tahoe 5.3 with 4 speed wasn’t underpowered at the time and is a good machine. You might have missed my earlier post where I already commented on this particular combination.

I have a 6.4 Hemi (410 HP) in my Ram 2500 that gets 16 MPG avg. Change oil every 5k and truck is awesome with 150k on it.

and the new 5.3's are definitely not underpowered by any stretch of anyone's imagination unless youre a brand loyal retard.
They are the slowest half ton truck besides a naturally aspirated V6 or 4 cylinder. Pretty weak man.

What if I told you I know where there are ram gas burners going that long? The shitty horrible worst ever 5.7 hemi rams of all things.
We have a couple thousand of those at work. The hemis are good, but the tranny is ok at best. It’s a 100k-200k tranny at best. I wouldn’t own one personally. At least it’s better than the Chevy 5.3.

Im thinking about ditching my 2018 for a 2025 gasser

I have a 2003 1500 with 5.7 Hemi in it (193k) and the 2016 2500.
Only issue other than maintenance on either truck was had to replace rear end on 2003 around 125k.
The new 1500s are smooth as butter on roads - my 2500 is a Power Wagon package so tad smoother than reg 2500.

Had many GM’s and fords. I just got out of a 2018 Chevy Z71 with the 5.3. Transmission started its shite at 130k miles. Also was having to add oil in between oil changes. Went get a ford bc there pricing was better than GMs and I much rather the interior over the GM. The interior of the GM feels cheap and they been using the same buttons for the last 20years.
If I would buy a GM I would buy the 3.0 Duramax.

We live in a nice time when we can say that a 355 hp V8 is considered weak in a half ton pickup!

I did back in March. No complaints as of now and have 11k miles on it. Almost exclusively on back roads and turnrows.
Edit: I also got a 2025 Tahoe with the 3.0 a few weeks ago. Wife loves it and I like it in the little I have driven it.

How is the new Tundra turbo V6 overall? I know it’s faster than the 5.7 was, but does it feel that much faster? Do you know how it compares to the ecoboost in how it drives?

Looks like 4wd crew cabs with the trailering package and 60K and 22 and 23 models are readily available in the mid $30K range. Not the AT4 but the LT package. Very interesting. Thanks for the information!
I think the LT/SLT packages have a slightly lower max towing capacity than the AT4’s, but it’s just 100# less I believe.

I was tired of dealing with Ford dealerships in my area so I went with a 2024 Tahoe when it was time to get rid of my 2014 Expedition. The Tahoe has the 5.3. It only has 17k miles and I haven’t towed anything yet, but I’m really enjoying the truck. I got 23 mpg on my last trip south and it had plenty is acceleration for me.

There is nothing wrong with 5.3 motor, its a great engine. The problem was with the transmissions, mostly the 10 speed but I think that has been taken care of.

I'm not a Ford guy. Never had one and never driven one. The story as to why, my uncle bought one. Brand new and we were all at my grandparents. I was probably around 10-12yr old.
He was so proud of it. He and I went to the store to grab some thing and when we got home, I grabbed the door handle to open the door. It was cheap plastic and snapped off. My uncle thought I did something to break it but I didn't. Literally just pulled up on it. Since then I've had no interest in one. Bad taste.
But, to answer your question. It's been a good engine. I had a 2011 Tundra and a 2012 Sequoia. The Sequoia is now my son's.
The new one is definitely faster. Weight is much lighter it seems that the old Tundra and much lighter than the Sequoia.
I've towed a 50hp tractor, the sequoia (took to my FIL to get the alternator replaced, he had a guy) and also a mini excavator with it.
It pulled them all with no issues whatsoever. I was very leary about getting the V6 with turbos but it's been a good truck and I'd buy another, though I'd probably prefer the 5.7L just because natural aspirated vs forced, seems like natural should be longer life.

Same situation. My 01 Silverado was great, as was my 09 gmc. However my 2014 z71 was plagued with transmission problems. That ended it for me. I can’t see me buying another GM in the foreseeable future
I can’t speak for the 2010, but 2014 to about 2016 is well documented drive train issues

Are they as bad as everyone makes them seem like right now.
Not sure who's saying this but the 5.3 is a good engine; I do understand they're having problems with the 6.2 tho.

If I HAD to buy a new truck, it would be a 5.0 Ford. I wouldn't touch the new hemi with the hybrid start stop in its first year. The last gen hemi was great though.

To another poster, gas milage isn't as bad as it was with the 5.7. Before I switched tires on it, I drove from Memphis to Columbus OH on a single tank. 576 miles if I remember right. I have 33" KO2s on it now and get 18 mpg
I get 14.5 with my 5.7 so that’s major improvement
2014 Silverado LT 5.3 V8 with a salvage title, bought the truck for $19k with 79k miles in March of 2020 right before Covid-19 Hysteria went bonkers and jacked up used vehicles prices 20-30%, truck gets around 20 mpg.....I'm driving this sucker till it drops.

I had the 3.0 Duramax, probably my favorite truck i ever had as far as towing, mpg, ride…. It was reliable until it wasn’t. Spent 3 months in the shop this year total for 2 different issues due to back ordered parts. Finally traded it in for a Ford with the coyote 5.0. Guess we will see how this one goes.

Seems like today you better be prepared to deal with some type issue no matter what the brand. You are going to get lots of expert advice here based on experience. There are 1000’s of 5.3, 5.0, Hemis, twin turbos, riding around flawlessly. Just like there are lots of flaming POS that those people scream the loudest. My old man has a 22 F150 that’s been sitting at the dealer for 6 weeks for a rear end recall. They can’t get the parts.
