Well I'll throw in my history channel aided two cents.

Man can adequately fill any predator niche. Man could exterminate everything on this planet. Man could probably figure out a way to crack this planet in half right square down the middle if man wanted to.

The point is, we hav the power to completely detatch from all things "natural." I don't think that means we should exterminate a species on th basis that it "doesn't serve a purpose" (except Mosquitos). Should they be allowed to run rampant? frick no. Should they be managed and allowed to exist? Of course. I think man owes it to nature and the earth and future generations to let nature determine which species exist.

With that said, If I see a wolf chewing on one of cows, it's a dead SOB.

Why? You have business losses just like anybody else...why shouldn't ranchers? I own the wolf as much as the rancher does and he may be ranching on MY land (a voter). I want the wolf to stay around whether the rancher wants it or not. An apex predator is not a part of the property it is on.
Second a wolf is worth more than a cow...or elk. Ask any Yellowstone employee. How many people travel to see wolves? More than want to shoot them by far and they do it year round. Wolves are money in the bank. The states that shoot them out lose the money...just like non-gambling states bitching about losing revenue.
Wolves (timbers) kill coyotes (except reds which may breed with them). They kill possums and coons also. We are usually to lazy to bother shooting them (coons, possums) unless they piss us off. Wolves will do it fulltime for free...and not raid your garbage like coyotes. Stop letting your scaredy cat European relatives talk through your 21st century mouth. Learn some ecology man.

I think you're kind of preaching to the choir now man

We don't want to shoot them all. I support their reintroduction. I'm just not opposed to the limited hunting season on them as a way to limit the population.

And downshift, I agree. frick mosquitoes

Yeah. People see wolves in the wild all the time.

99% of people can't spot them in a zoo exhibit, much less actually see one in the wild. GTFO.

How did I set you off?

I merely stated my position and was promptly called stupid and/or dumb.

Conservation and the predatory need are fairly far apart on this species IMO.

No ill will.

My only aggravation had nothing to do with your position.

I personally would not hunt wolves. Then again, I wouldn't hunt bears. If the wolves have a viable population established that can sustain hunting, then I have no trouble with others doing it.

That pic the OP has is just sad though. Looks like someone's giant german shepard with it's tongue hanging out. Either the dude is a midget or that is one huge wolf.

I'd rather see wolves eating all the culls & cripples than those GD Xbowers.

If invited I'd give it a shot. Not something I could get into though.

I probably wouldnt on the basis of not eating it. I think I would have a hard time ripping the hide off and just leaving the carcass behind. At least I assume folks dont eat them.

Not many Chinese buffets around those parts.

I would never kill one just to kill it but would protect a dog, or livestock. I like to track em and watch them from a distance.

I'd hunt coyotes in an area where they are a nuisance. Obviously I'd probably extend that to wolves or cougars or foxes if they were taking livestock on private land.

I don't hunt for trophy. That includes deer.

I just went back and skimmed the thread again. I really turned this thing into a clusterfrick for a while there. I guess I was just looking to pick an e-fight

How often do you see/hear them up there? I know hearing a pack of coyotes cutting up in the swamp sends chills down my back. I bet a pack of wolves in the mountains on a cold night is a hell of a sound.
