I know several people on here have experience hunting public land. I am heading to a WMA on Saturday to duck hunt for the opener. I have never been duck hunting on a WMA and wanted some clarification on the 4am rule - as I am sure the game wardens will be out on opening morning.

Can you get check in at the self clearing permit section and wait at the launch or are not allowed on the property all together? Can you put your boat in the water, but just stay at the dock?

TIA of your help. Best of luck

I am assuming it will be an all out blitz to get to spots on Saturday with hundreds of people sky-blasting. I'm sure some people will find a way to leave prior to 4am. I just hate to be the one to show up at 3:45 to 50 empty trailers.

Not supposed to be on the property before 4 am. But there will be people there regardless. I just know that ticket isn't cheap.

Which WMA? Different WMAs are enforced differently.

ETA: As best I can tell, I'm a dumbass. No entrance until 4am. Most federal lands carry this restriction too.

You should go to Stock Landing or French Fork on Catahoula Lake and watch the 12 ring circus/clusterf*ck of airboats, go-devil boats, 4 wheelers and walking coonasses all heading into the lake in the dark. Dey ain't waiting until no 4am.

There's a little place called wham brake. You know how Ronnie Milsap used to sing about West Virginia? Well the Nela rednecks sing that tune about the wham bam thank ya mam brake.

Just show up there at 3:45 and you'll know all you need to about Wma 4am restrictions.

Hint: 500 yahoos will be in their blinds by 2am Saturday morning out there.

I read the manual as well - cannot enter until 4am. However the real question is how many people actually oobey the rule?

I am heading to Pearl River WMA. I figure if they were going to enforce the rule, it would be on Saturday.

I am guessing that a few hundred people will be there and most will be trying to get a head start.

Good catch. I searched for "4am" "4 am" "4:00am" etc... Guess I never used the periods...

Exactly. Not saying it was legal but we were in a blind in pomme de terre for 3am. But there were no green jeans present at the dock...

I hunted one of the NWRs towards the end of last year and some hot-shot federal game warden starting writing everyone tickets for being at the boat launch before 4 AM. No one would launch until 4 AM, the first truck would back down the ramp and wait until 4 to launch. Then all the other trucks would form a line and take their turn.

After the GW kicked everyone out, there was a crazy race down back to the boat ramps. Imagine 30 coonasses racing and passing one another down a one lane road pulling a boat. Absolute chaos and just brings out more hostility in an already hostile environment

Now part of Russell Sage, WMA rules apply. They also burnt down most of the blinds (so I heard)except certain ones for youth hunts..

So, you are one of the people building a blind out there. Watch out for green jeans.

What parts of pdt did you duck hunt? Grew up crossing Belson to deer, hog and squirrel hunt but never saw much in the way of duck hunting out there.
