My FIL is looking for a new Winchester 94 with a 20" barrel chambered in 30-30. So far it's been a little difficult to find. He lives in Lafayette. I've been pricing them online..and it looks like the going price is $1000 +/-$200. Anybody know who may have these on hand in La that he could find one at? He's not real keen on the FFL transfer stuff or how it works from the internet (gunbroker, etc)...tried to tell him...but for some reason he doesn't wanna go that way.

Thanks in advance

I try to buy local, but if the price is right thats hard to beat. Most of the guys around here only charge $20.

I understand. Here it varies between $25-50 per transaction. But he's old school and won't do internet purchases like that.

Yeah the Marlin equivalent is like 1/2 that price. However it has to be a Winchester as he's trying to "right a wrong". He borrowed this gun and now can't find it..so he's buying the guy a new one.

Gunbroker is a breeze and odds are will give you the best price unless you want to visit every Pawn Shop in SW LA.

There are serviceable to very nice 30-30's on Gunbroker right now for $300-500. Are you looking for a vintage collectors piece or simply to replace a hunting rifle?

Thats going to be difficult because Winchester officially discontinued the model 94 in 2006. What Winchester offers now are limited edition and collectors pieces which are grossly overpriced. I suppose its possible but I'd say its pretty unlikely you're going to find a new 94 in the box thats been sitting around for better part of a decade. The Winchester enthusiasts undoubtedly snatched all of those up soon after the model was discontinued. If you do find one, to be sure you are going to pay a premium.

Yep. Just called Larry's Pistol and Pawn here in H'ville. Factories are all shut down that made that weapon. They are reconstructing them but are having issues with that. Larry's is a high volume dealer and sees about 10 per year. Not good for my FIL.

Thanks for the confirmation too.
