Have a husqvarna rancher 455 chainsaw that's leaking bar oil when set down. Its always dripped a little so I would set it on oil pads on a shelf. I thought they all did that. Now it drains the oil reservoir when set down for a few hours.

You'll have to tear it down to find out.Make certain you clean it very well beforehand. I would clean it and then put the oil in and see if I can see where it's coming from and then tear down as needed.Good luck. Having it clean is key.

I think its usually a cracked tube that goes from the oil tank to the bar port. Not be a penis but if you look it up on youtube you'll probably find a couple of vids dealing with the same issue on the same common Rancher saw.

My Stihl drips a little oil when I use a cheaper bar oil. If I use the thick Stihl oil, I'm good. Maybe try a thicker oil?

What weight oil you use for bar oil that won’t leak?

Use bar and chain oil. I'm not saying that will stop it from leaking, mine leaks, too esp during summer.

Guy at the Stihl shop said that you need to make sure you clean it after you use it because the shavings that are in the dispenser will act as a wick and it will cause it to leak. You may try that before tearing into it.

I think build pressure while the saw is running, that is how it keeps the chain oiled. When finished using it try opening the plug and letting the vacuum dissipate.

Since I started doing that I just have a couple drops leak out.

My stihl has a screw to moderate how much bar oil comes out. If it rattles out, I think it would all leak. Check that, then add some of that special ultra thick oil in the pointy tube from the counter at autozone to clog them arteries up a little.

Also, if all else fails, just store it on a diaper and let it soak up. I have a mower that has a crack in the hydraulic pump. After trying to fix it, I succumbed to just putting enough hydraulic oil in it to mow the yard and let it leak slowly. Been doing that for years.

On a rotary cutter I have put a bunch of grease in the gearbox to finish mowing. Its always some barb wire that gets wrapped around the shaft busting the seal. Pain in the arse to fix, but its got to be done.

The little bar oil mechanism gets dirty and gets stuck open.

Oil pump o-ring, they all go bad at some point but using cheap bar oil will accelerate the issue. My Stihl 025 did that until I got around to doing a full clean and tune up, replaced all the lines, filters, new bar and chain, new sprocket, clutch, oil pump drive, oil pump...when I pulled the oil pump the o-ring was split nearly in half. Doesn't leak at all now and only use Stihl bar oil.
