Had one in both houses I grew up in. As said, might work up north and probably works great there but here with our humidity its a terrible idea if your house is air conditioned. Might of been a decent idea back when there was no AC but they are useless now.

Grew up with one. Screw that crap.

We had one growing up also and about the only time it was run was early fall and when mother burned something in the kitchen. That sucker would clear smoke out of the house quick too.

I have one inside my house. Not sure why, the house isn't very old. Someone must have really wanted it. It's good for about 2 weeks out the year or if you burn something in the kitchen.

Same here. I didn't know how to use a thermostat until I moved out of my parents' house.

Mr Dupre, my daddy's Podna, had one at his camp on Bayou Sale. It worked really good. But it was a camp. I wouldn't put one In a house down south. A shed or camp would be fine.

Panasonic makes something called the ERV 100, and I think thatbis the model fan that will eliminate the humidity problem. There’s one for dry and one for wet air.
It doesn’t do the entire house on one unit but just a main location like bedroom hallways, living room, or kitchen. I also think it has a heat exchanger in them.

The old ones make good quiet shop fans if you build a box around them.

Thanks all for the replies. I’ve been away from Louisiana for about 16 years, so I forgot that it doesn’t cool down much at night in the summer. Where I’m at, it’s dry and typically cool at night, so I may look into one.
