Out of frame of this pic is a 3500 strapped to my truck. We didn't budge him.
My Rav 4 would have pulled him out with ease. Its a workhorse

Were you the guy mad at them for always giving way too detailed spots/tips?
Example Post: Today we limited out in 7+lb trout fishing the 17th jetty from the East side of Caminada Pass. All fish were caught on a 7' Falcon Coastal rod, Shimano Symetre 3000 series reels, spooled with 30lb PowerPro braid in moss green with a 36" flourocarbon leader, carolina rigged on a 1/0 Kahle hook with live puppies.
So the next day the 17th jetty is packed with fellas with 7' Falcon Coastal rods, Shimano Symetre 3000 series reels, spooled with 30lb PowerPro braid in moss green with a 36" flourocarbon leader, carolina rigged on a 1/0 Kahle hook with live puppies.

Yep, so I asked her what color boxers to wear and what color boat and whether the shrimp was hooked from the head or tail.
I think what got me banned was when she said people spend a lot of money on boats so they deserve to catch fish, and I went plain out ballistic on her.

I did something similar back in the spring of 1976 while a freshman at Southeastern. We were having a party on Cherokee beach, (Tangipahoa River) outside of Hammond. I drove my truck to the sandbar and got it stuck. I said..."no problem, we'll get it out tomorrow, let's party". Well a little later it rained and the party was a wash. It continued to rain and rain and rain. Hammond was flooded as was Baton Rouge. The river rose and my truck was completely submerged, (except the top of my camper) for a couple of days. The next day Bob Breck, (channel 4 in NOLA) was reporting live from the river on ABC Good Morning America. My parents, (while eating breakfast) saw the truck camper in the background identified by a bumper sticker, "a pinch is all it takes" prominently displayed above the camper door. Needless to say they were not to happy. I had to wait till the river crested and receded, (about a week as I recall) and tow that shite out with a tractor. We drained the oil a few times and it started and ran. The stereo even worked, but the lights were somewhat intermittent so it was not too good to drive at night.

That is awesome. I miss the days of Cherokee beach.

Not saying it would have helped, but with a mud tire there quite possibly could have been a better outcome for this douche.
Know how I know you don't do sand?
We were down in south texas about 50 miles down the 70 mile coast. Ran into 4 jeeps all buried. One got stuck acting stupid and the rest got buried trying to help.
Too heavy in sand with mud tires means lots of power to stay on top.
That little ranger had the best chance of getting him out
With a few high lifts, some carpet, and bungee tow straps it wouldn't have been that hard of a recovery.
When I pulled up on the jeeps, they asked for a tow, I gave em a spare shovel and some bottled water. Got it back down at the end of the island two days later.

quote:Sorry Rando, you couldn't be more wrong about the danger ranger. Yanking someone out is about force, not flotation. It's the basic premise of why tow straps work

Know how I know you don't do extractions (or physics)?

Only where he was, it wasn't. All the force in the world in a jerking motion was only going to lead to a broken chain (and it did). Any diesel was going go more down than forward in sand, especially wet sand.
With a number of jacks coupled with lumber, they could have lifted the front and slid carpet in the sandy hole. Then, with actual bungee tow straps, the small ranger could have gotten enough speed up without sinking.
This isn't a dry ground loaded tow. Traction nearly always trumps mass in sand. And anywhere else too.
It's the reason a volkswagen toureg tdi with a towing capacity of 7k lbs can drag a 1 ton duramax on dry ground.
Sorry, I've been towing shite out of fields and woods my entire life.
Not like the diesels succeeded in towing him out...

See there. I did not know that. I also know i wouldnt be stupid enough to ride my Duratracs anywhere near salt water for fear of rust on my truck let alone sinking it.
There was no gettin this guy out with another truck, period. It was a proven fact. That ranger was probably popping wheelies.

Great sand tire actually
I run them on my daily driver and my buggy.
Favorite tire to trail ride with in the woods of LA and handle the sand and rocks of moab too.
Basically any tire that requires A LOT of wheelspin in mud makes a great sand tire. They don't dig.
Salt water isnt that bad either, but you better wash the undercarriage REALLY well.

There were three diesels there, and none of them sank. Churning tires in the sand is not the way to move unless they are paddle tires. Yanking with a tow strap is (after you jacked it up a little).
Think of it this way....say you have a big block of granite sitting on the ground with a strap tied around it. Then, you have a 3500lb Ranger and an 8000lb Ram 3500 both yank on the thing going 15mph. Which one do you think will move the block more?

What is the kid's best next move with the truck?
This is assuming he did not have physical damage coverage, which I believe was the case.

Did this really just turn into a debate about which vehicle would have been more unsuccessful in pulling out some idiot with a neckbeard that decided to drive his truck in the Gulf of Mexico?
