We are looking to get boat probably next summer when the kids are older. Looking at boat prices I am just floored that anyone can afford them.

How many people can honestly afford to spend $150k+ on a mid 20ft center console.

Insanity.

No idea, wouldn’t be surprised though I bought a 10 yr old boat that’s paid off. The price of new boats is completely out of control.

It’s insane, but with easy financing, it’s reality. All the bells and whistles make it obnoxious but just the hull with an outboard is still high.

I thought many of the small, direct sell builders popping up in Florida (like xplor) would help. Nope, they’re selling at similar price points.

Seems like there are always used boats for sale. Lots of good ones if you’re willing to travel to get one and are patient.

Trucks, boats, lawn mowers...they’re all
Stupid expensive if buying brand new.

I worked with a lady, and her husband financed a Skeeter for 20 years, it was around $70k for a bass boat. When he was in from offshore for a month he usually went back out with just enough money to make the boat.

If he got a $100 raise he'd find something for $125 to finance, sad situation for sure.

Same has the $75k pickups, buyers don’t care what the cost is, just can they make the monthly payment.

They aren't being sold a boat. They are being sold a lifestyle.

Now go look at the RV market.

and yet people still believe inflation is 2%

I could sell my used boat for more than I paid for it.

For the real ballers

Some quick math says this boat will cost you...

$503,280. Plus tax.

For a sea pro. Lord have mercy...

I could sell my 20 year old boat for significantly more than the original price, easily.

Wait until next summer, the market is going to be saturated with lightly used boats.

We are headed for the next Great Depression. I see shite that costs $20 being offered for financing. Everyone who sells anything offers financing on everything. People not being able to control themselves and over extending themselves on credit is going to frick us.

In simple terms the Great Depression was caused by a decline in consumer spending made worse by a lack of credit, just the opposite of what you are saying.
