casting reel. it just gives you more options, and is much more accurate.

I don't ever see grown men using closed face spinning reels.

Casting unless windy in open water or cork fishing

A spinning reel for most applications. Cane pole for most others. A fly rod if my freezer is full. And a Lew's baitcaster if I want to cuss about another fricken birdsnest.

I keep 2 baitcasters and usually 3 spinning rods in the kayak, along with my 7wt fly rod.
I usually throw jighead with soft plastic on one baitcaster, and a spoon on the other. Spinning reels usually have 1 with a popping cork, 1 with a topwater and 1 with a suspended twitchbait.
For what its worth, I am way more accurate on my casts with the spinning setups than the baitcasters. Spinning is a godsend in the wind.

Damn. 5 casting rods and a fly rod all in one kayak?

Depends on the lure and the fish. I feel I have more control with a baitcaster. If I'm really just trying to sling it out there I'll use a spinning.
I really like using an ultralight setup for bream or sac-a-lait. Bass I prefer a baitcaster.

Never know when you might need them all!
FWIW, I have a Pro Angler that has the 6 rod tubes so most everything is out of the way. I have a towel that I place over the drive system when casting the fly rod to avoid hangups.

I roll with 5 in my yak and bring a fly rod when in freshwater. More rods = less lure changing. Mostly just changing colors or types of soft plastics.
FWIW i prefer super light spinning... like 1000 and 2000 series spinning on light action rods. The only negative is getting spooled or bull reds on light rod. However Ive never been spooled with light braid diameter or had broken rod because I work fish.

4 baitcasters 2 left hand and 2 right hand. If im fishing in the front of the boat and the bank is on the right i used left hand reels To cast over the trolling motor.

Wouldn't work with my uncle. He's the type to make you work the trolling motor in the front while he casts way in front of you while the boat is coasting forward. POS. He's also the type that spends more time traveling to a "spot" than he actually does fishing said "spot."

My uncle the same way, I'd just swing the backend of the boat way from bank.

I like baitcasting reels for fishing that requires torque and spinning reels for skipping docks and drift fishing.

and why?
All depends on how and what I'm targeting. If I'm chasing big mangroves or cobia, I want a spinner for freelining and spot-casting, respectively. If I'm in the marsh, baitcaster all day every day.
