Casting... Ever since I started fishing with casting reels, I feel really uncomfortable with a spinning reel...
I learned how to fish with a spincast as a kid... Casting reels just feels more natural...
My one spinning reel that I used fishing corks only, I wound up giving to one of my nephews...

I'd go buy one but I'm a cheapskate Jew. Honestly the only reason I even tried was because my dad bought 3 gold Calcuttas, bird nested all 3 in about 4 cast several years ago and abandoned them. I found all 3 on a shelf still bird nested to hell. Cleaned them up and will probably start using trying them out. Trying to work a topwater plug with a right handed baitcaster was a disaster for me.

no one is arguing that they are not technically open faced
just that no one that I know calls spinning reels open faced

I'm just jumping in thiz thread to say that I use open race/spinning reel interchangeably, the reason being is that I I fish with a bunch of people that use virh terms
A good # of those people also use them interchangeably as well, please note that two of them are pro fisherman that are pretty big players in the game..
Not some roody poo that isn't as culturally aware as the people who use these terms interchangeably
Culture.

I've heard and definitely referred to a baitcast as open faced
If someone on the boat asked me to hand them an open faced when referring to a spinning rod they'd never hear the end of it

Look, these people say Sac-a-lait as well. We aren't dealing with Mensa here.

That was a joke. An open faced joke.

I hate spinning reels unless I'm fishing with a cork in an open area. Which is pretty rare. Give me an open faced bait casting apparatus.

It's simple geography. Go east and west on the gulf coast and see what people call things. Different bait species is a great example of what they are called State to State.

I have NEVER heard of anyone calling a spinning reel and open faced reel. NEVER

Hey now! We are in the middle of a completely inane argument that has no intrinsic value or right answer. We are completely happy arguing about something and allowing our collective jimmies to be rustled. We don't need your common sense or logic to come in here and settle things down or settle it. So please take your level-headedness and exit the thread.
