Yes, from reading it seems most people prefer the nitride model over the phosphate. That’s the only reason I wasn’t looking at that one.

I bought that exact PSA AR yesterday as my first AR. So I’d say get that one

Main reason is. As soon as you buy one of these cookie cutter models you posted you are going to upgrade this, then that, change this, bigger that, dif color this, milled diff that. then you look back two years down the road and you got 3x the amount you would have if you would just build what you want from a lower up.
I don’t understand this.
I have 3 ARs, a Colt SP-1, an older Olympic shorty, and a hybrid - Rock River lower and PSA M-4 upper.
I’ve never felt the need to fiddle with them.

Yeah I’ve never bothered to fiddle with my PSA AR10.
I’m about to buy a blemished PSA AR15 for $500. I’m cheap and easy to please.

I bought the SW Sporter. Stock and grip suck so I changed them out. The trigger was a single stage so I replaced it with a Ruger elite. Very nice.

Customization. Built exactly what you want. For some, its a stock rifle.
I prefer to choose and assemble the parts individually. The rifle I bought off the rack, I have touched once. I mess with my builds daily, love them so much more.
I'm going to replace 90% of the stuff on the one I bought this fall. Weight, balance, accuracy, cycling... tuning it is actually a lot of fun. I'll continually upgrade as long as parts are available. You can buy a few parts at a time and keep from having to make a large purchase.

Yes, 100% just looking for a cheap entry level AR.
Appreciate all of the replies.
If you are looking for range toys, either is fine. If you are looking for a potential defense weapon I would encourage you to look further.
The guy mentioning PSA AR QC is inconsistent is 1000% correct.

I’ve been happy with my Ruger.

I've always wanted one. Don't know as much as I should about all the different pieces. How tough would it be for a guy like me to build my own? Need specific tools I'm assuming?

Buy complete upper with BCG and Charging handle for 223/556
Put together and push two pins in.
Insert magazine with bullets and fire.

And the 5.56 would be the better one right? I gotta research the round difference the better triggers and such things, maybe find an ar for dummies book i guess.
Thanks

That 556 will shoot both the 223 and 556 rounds.
The 556 is the 223 with more power and higher case pressure. Buying the 556 will ensure you are safe to shoot both
My kids can take them apart. They are simple. You can do it. I have faith.

To properly assemble an upper, yes you need some basic AR specific tools. Buy an assembled upper if it is your first time. Proper torque matters!
I use to build lowers on the gun counter for people who tried and couldn't do it, it only took a few minutes while talking to them. The spanner wrench might be the only thing you don't have, well and a staking tool but most people don't even bother with that.
Building your first lower it might take an hour or two or even longer... but it isn't hard. I remember my first one and I taped shite so I wouldn't scratch it and used clamps improvised to push pins and what not. None of that was necessary and just a lot of extra time. I also had boxes of springs and pins so when one went flying I just grabbed another one, if you are working with a single LPK you have to go hunting for them.

You want 5.56 or .223 Wylde. .223 Remington is not nearly as common as the other two for AR's.

The majority of complete uppers include a BCG and Charging handle, they will state it in the description. If it is NOT a 5.56/.223/300blk BCG you will be told.
