A red-eared slider turtle?

I’ve shot probably 20 in my lake so far this year.

I caught a monster one in my yard yesterday. He was the size of a shovel. Showed him to the kids and threw him in the ditch.

My son caught one the day before his birthday last year. Wasn’t much bigger than a quarter. He wanted to keep it and now it’s 4-5”

Congrats on the salmonella.

I dont know if that is actually a thing, but my mom who would let us run in sewage ditches barefoot wouldnt let us have a baby turtle in the house.

It's really all reptiles that are salmonella carriers. Turtles, bearded dragons, and geckos just tend to cause infections more commonly. But the likelihood of you catching salmonella and dying or getting seriously I'll from your pet turtle is 1,000,000x lower than dying of covid. Like there was literally only 1 salmonella death in 2021

I’m guessing your immune system is healthy.

I make my kids run barefoot for the same reason.

Also my foot surgeon said that 3rd world cou tries have less foot problems than 1st due to barefoot childhoods. No joke.

Had a baby in the yard Easter weekend. The part of Bayou Robert behind my house is loaded.

Oh, I still have deep scars from finding all kinds of glass and metal in those damn ditches. But those green crawfish and eels were a draw I couldnt resist.

I never wear shoes to this day, but I must go get a pedicure every 3 months or so for my nasty crusty heels. The poor Asian ladies see me coming and play rock paper scissors. Loser has to do my feet.

I am healthy for the most part, allergy type stuff mostly. And have never had a foot problem.

Hell, we swam in the drainage ditches when we had a huge rainstorm. Same with mom and the turtles. No turtles in the house because……….diseases….

My kids catch them all the time in our pond. I hate them honestly.
