Amber Romance works best for me. Picked up some other stuff at PAC kayak rentals last week that worked ok too but didn't last as long as the AR.

What you seek is the “holy grail”, some magic elixir that deters the flying teeth. The only 100% fix that I have found is to cover up completely. That is to say wear long form fitting sleeves, long pants, socks, shoes. I put on latex gloves to protect the hands and have a fine mesh head net. This is 100% effective in preventing the little bastards from biting me. I have tried all the different sprays etc and while they may “work” some I have found none to be the end all be all. I talked to a guy who lives in point au chene the other day and he says “ocean potion lotion” is what he uses. I guess I’ll be trying another one.

They work nicely in my experience, as long as there's very little breeze.

The Spray and Wipe insecticides that are for horses. Spay it on your clothes and the gnats and green heads stay away from you.

One Thanksgiving day the gnats were eating us alive while catching the red‘s at Plaisance’s Dam in Fourchon.

Everyone asked what we were using because we were not getting bit. I sold a case of the stuff at the dam that afternoon.

Damn things made me feel like Jody Foster in The Accused yesterday. Usually have some bug spray in the boat but couldn’t find it. They were awful. Ended up going back to the ramp and running down to Booth’s (comma to the top) grocery and they were out

Lady next door was in her yard smoking a cigarette and I gave her $20 for a half full can of Off would have paid $100

A dog's arse the size of a ferris wheel, about 35.0 feet away, works best.

I found a section of burning marsh yesterday. Got downwind of it. It was THE only thing that worked. I literally saw people running through the marina parking lot. Everybody was spraying and/or wiping something on and nothing seemed to work.
