30% of the leaves look like this:

I’ve already talked to a tree AIDS specialist and they said it is definitely not tree HIV or AIDS.

See all those little bugs on the bottom of the leaf on the 1st picture? Those are aphids.

Kill them.

Means you only have 70% left to kill, I hate those trees and their invasive root systems

The roots are pretty bad. I have 12, I like them. The thing I hate the most is the amount of small branches that fall during a storm. I'm constantly building a fire to burn hundreds of branches.

My Crepe Myrtle had Aphids pretty bad. A coupled applications of Neem Oil did the trick, but not before turning my tree black with mold.

Which reminds me, the new branches are not growing as fast as my other non affected Crepe's....could it be stunted or something because of the mold?

Probably crepe myrtle scale, baw. Rain seemed to clear mine up. I also thinned the crowns some, cut out some old suckers and what not to improve air flow.

I was told it was black mold caused by Aphids, but really have no idea. Tree turned solid black from base to tip, and every branch in between...along with every leaf.

Took me 6 hours with a power washer and a scrub brush to get it presentable.

They are dead from being River Birches. They don’t need a rhyme or reason. They just die.

Looks like your river birch has been fooling around with that slutty, cigarette-smoking floozy gum tree two doors down.

Could be aphids no doubt. The aphids and scale make honeydew which leads to the mold. My crepe myrtles were black, too, but once the old bark shed I've got nice, clean bark now.

I might've sprayed mine with malathion, or viper. Was planning to do a soil drench but the bugs cleared up prior to.
