Once you stop watching the news and talking politics with people, your life becomes much better. You realize how much negativity that shite brings into your life. Nowadays, people live to be angry about that type of thing. frick em all. I'll stick to getting paid, having sex, and drinking Jack and Cokes

I am a member of NRA, GOA, and SAF.

Let me explain something that should be painfully obvious but some of you are missing, because you really don't get the bigger picture here: the NRA is the 800lb gorilla that groups like GOA, SAF, FPC, and many others need to be as effective as they are. The NRA draws a lot of fire, sometimes deservedly, and that allows groups like the SAF to bring cases before the courts without the media (and therefore the attention of oppositional legislatures) scrutiny that the NRA would get. Withdrawing support from ANY of these groups is myopic, narrow-minded, self-important grandstanding
Well said.

There's a memo floating around somewhere written January 14, 1994 from Jody Powell to George Stephanopoulos, basically advising on the messaging involving gun-control proposals and included literature from Handgun Control, Inc (now Brady Campaign). Some seem to think that messaging and proposals from 25 years ago is outdated and no longer a threat but these people are still alive today and still influencing anti-gun legislation. I'll post a copy of the memo later because there are some here that need to read it.

I remember the memo. Basically they want to isolate and divide gun owners. The gun control advocates know that hunters have been declining for decades. That was at the time they were looking to push Brady 2.
The NRA needs to learn from history which they haven't. When FOPA was passed, machine gun owners were thrown under the bus and gave gun control advocates the ammo they needed to attack other classes of firearms. They've gotten fat and lazy and need an overhaul. Make no mistake this bump stock ban feels eerily like FOPA and you can bet that even if SCOTUS rules Assault weapons bans illegal, they'll go after every accessory and part.
The NRA needs to step up efforts to protect and push 2A legislation. They wasted 2 years and who knows when the Republicans will get the House again.

While I don’t disagree, the NRA is I think the largest pro-hunting organization as well.

Wayne has set up $1 mill per year in retirement, supposedly. The NRA needs to rotate leadership so no one sets up a kingdom.

Yea that's ridiculous, he needs to be forced out and that retirement needs a chainsaw taken to it.

I hate the NRAs tactics for securing funding but lets not pretend they have not been critical in protecting 2nd amendent rights.
Lets be real, it takes large sumes of money to challenge anything in court these days

I am not disagreeing with that but still, a Mil a yr is excessive for a retirement from a nonprofit.

They maybe our largest hunting advocates but also are the largest reason why hunters get a bad rap too. The organization far too often doesn't spend what it should on hunters while harboring factions of nut jobs who think a rifle is meant for a Gov't official instead of putting food on the table. Conversation groups do a far better job in that aspect.

Technically, the 2nd amendment was written as a preventive barrier of govt officials desire to become power hungry.
By wanting them to promote more hunting and less the other, you are playing into the "you dont need an AR to hunt" crowd

Well...... I honestly really don't in most circumstances. Predator hunting though is drenched in the use of AR style weapons.
Question to the crowd? Would you be okay with having to show a more thorough background check and a special permit to purchase and own an AR. kinda like a concealed permit?

If the opposition wasn't lying sacks of shite, maybe. But they are shysters, give an inch they take a mile.

No. It is a second amendment right to protect ones self against a tyrannical govt.
It isnt for hunting. It is straight up for mel gibson style patriot arse kickings

Why would a a permit be needed when ar15s are rarely used in crime especially compared to handguns? What would a permit do that would alleviate anything? A permit for the sake of a permit is useless and I sure don't want to have to keep paying the government for the right to own one.

Apparently you have no idea why the the 2nd Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution.

Well things certainly got interesting over the weekend. Someone leaked a bunch of documents with details of Wayne LaPierre's spending habits.
Over a quarter million dollars for suits? His million dollar salary isn't enough?
Paying for a female staffers apartment?
Is that what NRA dues pay for?
