What would you fix? (trolling motor battery/charger question)

I think I know what direction I'm going in....but what are your thoughts?
Pulled the boat out of storage after sitting for 3 months. Brought it to the house, plugged up the onboard charger. After changing the oil(s) and fuel filters, I took it out to see what else I might come across. 24v Minnkota riptide terrova trolling motor worked great for the first few minutes....then a sudden decrease to about 1/2 power... Not a gradual decrease.
Figured it was at least one bad battery. Put them both back on the charger overnight when I got home....and then tested the motor again. It ran wide open for 3 minutes and then, same thing...immediate (not gradual) reduction in power.
Problem is....when I removed the batteries (both are those exide dual purpose from academy), both still measured 12.6. Although one was slightly swollen...
I'm almost leaning toward replacing the swollen battery and the charger.....
Thoughts?

My minn Kota would run perfect but at half power in forward. Took it to a recommended troll motor guy who changed the potentiometer twice and didn’t fix the issue. Took it to someone else and changed the motherboard, immediately fixed the issue and has worked perfect since. If it’s not the batteries it may be one of those two things.

Can you borrow a battery or two to see if that is indeed the problem?

I would use another and try to make sure its the swollen battery. Eliminate the idea that it isn't by a simple test.

What a pain....
I think I'm going to do a little more testing on the batteries before I leap.....just a pita to take the time to do it

A battery can still show 12+ V and still be bad. Take it to a Walmart and they can do a draw down test.
Or, just try another battery.

Harbor freight load tester is a handy tool if you have multiple batteries. One of those are bad, I had same issue last summer and it was a bad battery.

More than likely this. We had an Ultrex doing the same thing and new motherboard fixed the issue.

If you have one bad you have 2 bad batteries. Get a new battery or just go get 2 new ones.

Need to put a load on a battery. I just recently replaced 2 batteries within a week of each other. Both would charge but then quickly drain Apparently They were a bit over 5 yrs old but I didn’t know it until they started exhibiting this issue. I called Batteries Plus (Duracells) and they looked up my purchases to see when I bought them. Went to Sam’s Club for the same batteries for $25 bucks less. Hope you get your issue fixed.

As many have stated, the battery voltage at 12.6 not under load is virtually meaningless. Get a battery tester of put a load on it, a simple 12V light would work as a load. On a bad battery you should see the voltage drop quite a bit.
As another poster pointed out, a bad or weak battery can also weaken or kill a good battery.

That pretty much sums up boat ownership

I would get rid of the swollen one. The vents might be stopped up or you have another problem but that could seriously be dangerous.

Auto zone and other parts stores will load test the batteries for free.
