I almost came here to post this same thread a couple weeks ago. There are a bunch hanging around the swamp by my house. I had never seen
any before, but I found the name on an id chart. First time
I saw them, I thought they were fake. They were all standing perfectly still like statues in someone's back yard.

My dad feeds them and they have 100+ show up every evening. They are real fun to watch. They circle 3 or 4 times then start landing in his oak and pine trees. Then, a couple drop in and before you know it they are falling out of the sky with brakes on to the cracked corn. Always have 2 or 3 on the outskirts on lookout duty and 1 or 2 feisty ones that snap at the others to get to the food.

Last year he made this Wiley Coyote style trap and caught a few. Rang a six pack of necks for a Sunday smoked duck supper, and one was banded. I don't think he ever called it in though.

We have hundreds year round in the treated water ponds at work. Sometimes thousands, and they will make a literal pile of ducklings.

They have been nesting on the Red River the last few years as well around NWLA

I did not know they were up here in NWLA. I would like to see one.

I have noticed several white winged doves in this area (north Bossier) over the last 2-3 years. They seem to be expanding northward and eastward. I never saw them years ago.

Thanks for posting. Saw these fishing on a pond in SouthArk over the weekend. We had no clue what they were.

Who was that idiot state rep that got charged with shooting a truckload of these then feigned ignorance about "mexican whistling birds"?

A buddy of mine took a picture of these up in North Alabama on a refuge recently. So yes they are definitely expanding their habitat

I saw one today flying through a chemical plant between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. 15 years ago I was excited to see my first one. Now they are everywhere. Keep your eyes out for Egyptian Geese, they are doing the same thing and expanding fast.
