re: Anyone here commute daily from BR to Plaquemine?
Posted by DownTheRoad on 8/21/21 at 2:21 pm to Not Cooper
I commute Mid-city to Plaquemine every day. 25 minutes in the morning is pretty consistent if you leave by 6:30.
Drive home averages 65-75 minutes. Mondays are usually lighter ~45 minutes. Thursdays are usually the worst. Bad rain at quitting time or wrecks will push it to 2 hours. That is usually less than weekly.
Occasionally there are longer term issues that can make every day a 2 hour commute home: work on the intracoastal bridge, sunshine bridge problems, etc...

Running Creek Ranch also opened recently in Poplarville, MS. Hawk who used to set targets at GOL is the course manager so the targets should be great. Looks nice but haven't been yet.
Covey Rise is the overall best in LA at the moment. Their membership is reasonable, $65/month which includes 200 targets that roll over if you don't use them. I would put 3D at a tie for quality of targets but doesn't compare on facilities.

Agreed, I was a member at High Point for a year when I lived in Belle Chasse. If two thirds of the machines worked in a day it was cause for celebration. But if you live on the West Bank it was better than driving to Houma or Covey rise for a quick practice round.

Heard the manager at the Siegen location say Airline flooded while shopping Saturday morning. Probably a roof leak.
re: Left handed shotgun

I shoot left handed and have a standard black SBE2 for hunting and sporting clays when I was getting started. Someone offered to trade a LH camo SBE for it so I tried it out for a couple weeks and didn't like it. It wasn't 100% LH. I think it was the release that was still on the right side. I felt smoother with the RH gun.
My point is, find one to shoot before you buy to make sure it is really what you want.

Have not been but I have heard good things about the Meadows Gun Club in Forsythe, GA.
Santa Rosa Shooting Center near Pensacola is a good stop depending on your route. It is a well taken care of course to keep in your back pocket for beach trips. I believe they added a second course since I went.
Providence Hill is a must go place if you are into sporting clays. It is private but open for registered shoots several times a year. If there is a finer place to shoot clays in the country I'd like to see it.

I have shot at a lot of registered sporting clay shoots over the past few years and have noticed only one person shooting an 828U. Some of those guys spend a lot of money trying out new shotguns. If they were up to par with Beretta or Browning O/U's at the same price there would be a lot more out at the tournaments.
Also consider the Citori CX and CXS which can be had a little cheaper than a 725 and have a different feel that some prefer.

My grandfather took me fishing with Troy Robichaux with Saltwater Guide Service out of Golden Meadow when I was little. He was great with me, I caught a couple reds and was hooked for life.
He is still good with my little cousins 20 years later. I highly recommend him.

re: Tell me about Belle Chasse
Posted by DownTheRoad on 2/24/18 at 10:03 pm to WestlakeTiger
Just moved back to BR after living in Belle Chasse for 2.5 years.
I Agree with Htran's list. Crime is low and there is a lot more green space than the rest of the westbank. It seems like a sheriff's officer lives on almost every block. When my wife got in a fender bender in town 8 cars responded immediately.
Additions to Htran's list:
1. The public schools, especially the elementary school, rank high every year.
2. Best place for lunch is Lil Lee's at the Conoco station in Jesuit Bend. (Aka "Pink Store" or "Green Top" depending on where you work)
3. World class fishing and duck hunting a short drive away that never has traffic.
4. Jeanfreau's is a great hardware store with awesome service. Beats the 15 minute drive to Home Depot or Lowe's for inexpensive items.
Cons:
1. A lot of the restaurants have very similar food so you will be headed across the bridge or to NOLA. BC did just get a decent Mexican joint though.
2. Small town drama / inbred politics
3. Newwave communications is the cable provider for most of Belle Chasse and they absolutely suck.

Rent a houseboat in Venice Marina. If there are one or two boats in the party just park them at the houseboat. Lots of charter options for those interested.

State sporting clays shoot was at Covey Rise this weekend. A lot of regulars (including the new owner) were there this weekend.

I don't think I have seen it mentioned yet, but Hunters Run will send you a pro-rated refund if you ask for it. I got mine a couple weeks ago.

We have hundreds year round in the treated water ponds at work. Sometimes thousands, and they will make a literal pile of ducklings.
