I’m going after pigs with a shotgun hoping to get more than one per blast. I’ve been using buckshot but thinking of using a smaller size with a bigger spread.

Has anybody tried this and what were your results?

If you're looking for clean ethical kill shots then use a rifle. Or 00 Buckshot.

If you're looking to kill as many pigs as possible with no limitations on legality or ethics, then use TSS #6

Maybe try a punt gun.

Seriously though, step back and think about taking a safety course. Your wording makes it clear you have no idea what you are talking about or doing.

I've heard buckshot is much less effective than desired

Multiple times with buckshot and the results were dismal. If they are close enough to kill effectively then the pattern will be tight and you will only kill one and probably wound one or two.
You can maybe try TSS but at 5-6$ per shot it’s gonna be an expensive eradication if you have a bunch of pigs.
A semiautomatic rifle with a red dot or reflex sight would be better at putting more down at a time.

On public I kill the piss out of them with #2 and #4 steel during nutria season and #4 lead during squirrel. I'd go with 00 or a rifle if legal.

I think you've been playing too many video games

Probably not going to kill anything and just end up with multiple pigs hit, but nothing fatal. With smaller size shot, you'd need to be shooting at a closer range to hit the pig with enough pellets to kill it....which means your spread is still going to be tight because of the close range.

Your best bet to kill multiple pigs at a time is probably to use an AR with open sights so you can shoot then get your sights on the next one quickly before they have time to run off.

If you want a shotgun caliber, that leaves the .410 as your only option.
