I’ve always had my .45 xdm loaded in the bedside desk drawer, but now that we have little ones starting to walk around the house I’m looking to get some kind of quick open lockbox. Any recommendations?

I have two small kids, and I have this one mounted to the side of my bed frame and I love it.

I use a cheap stack on that fits in my drawer. It wouldn't keep out a thief, but will keep out kids.

Vaultek Biometric

I know biometric safes get a bad rap, but this one works great for me. Opens with a finger every time. I don’t want to have to remember a combination in the middle of the night when I’m half asleep and/or freaking out.

How often do batteries die?

V-Line. They are somewhat expensive. The advantage is that the mechanism is not battery powered, which was important to me.

That one looks like it has an app that monitors battery’s. Wonder if it sends push notifications when they get low??

I keep it plugged in (why not?) and the batteries are rechargeable, so battery life has never been an issue. An app comes with it and monitors the charge if I need it. The app also lets me know if the safe has been opened, and I can use the app to open the safe remotely. None of that has come in the play yet, but it’s neat. I keep meaning to mess with the wife by opening the safe remotely while I’m out of town. Having that thing suddenly pop open next to the bed while she’s reading would freak her out.

Two rubber coated bicycle hooks mounted on the wall inside my closet above a sliding door. Shotgun lives there, nothing chambered but 4 in the pipe and 5 more on the buttstock. You'd never know it was there unless you are on a ladder stand and craning your neck pretty hard to try and see it, but I can reach right up and grab it.

I have a Vaultek VT20 series but mine is non-biometric. It is nice that it has passcode unlock, app unlock, and key lock.

I'm pro vault with kids.

But make it a point to enforce gun rules from a young age. That way if they are at a friend's house and find one, or their friends are being unsafe, they know to remove themselves from the situation.

I have a shotgun on hooks in my closet and a Beretta 92 on a CoJo gun magnet mounted behind a curtain and too high for my kids to reach.

Kids are grown and out so no safe. Doubt burglar would wait for me to unlock anyway. In nightstand during day and on top of nightstand at night.

That looks pretty awesome.

Does the combination use batteries?

I like the idea of bio locks but I don’t wanna have to deal with battery change.
