What is the deal with the outrage over using "clip" instead of "magazine"

I never got this. People use different terms for everything. But this board and TD as a whole seems to flip out when someone calls a magazine a "clip". We all know to which they infr, we know what they are talking about. I just don't get it. Is clip just a bad word? I get it's more popular among the younger folks and has been used by anti-gun people.
I realized it rubbed off on me, when I corrected a friend yesterday who was talking about a gun he just got.
Each term is interchangeable, but this board hates the term clip. It's funny.

It's wrong. They're two completely different things with a different purpose. Just like calling an AR an assault rifle.
What if you were a contractor or really into tools and someone kept calling a drill a bit? Would that not annoy the crap out if you?

but that term is used for drill bits, you wouldn't call a drill a bit.
But everyone knows to what is being referred to when one says a "clip"

Since I know nothing about them I assumed AR stood for assault rifle...

I think that people calling ARs, assault rifles and constantly calling them fully automatics are pissing people off so they are more on edge to get everything right. Especially when the elected assholes who want to make laws on them aren't educated on the subject

What Doc said. It's just wrong. Each are two completely different things that have two different purposes. Women might call a crescent wrench pliers and we would know what they mean but it's wrong.

Warren G is to blame for all of this confusion.

I get it, but when someone says "I have three in the clip" I know what they are talking about. It's a popular term, yet here it seems to be cringe worthy.

well to the average person who doesn't collect guns it is.

Why would that be a lie. I may be left leaning but I still like guns.
No other reason to start this thread. I corrected him on 'clip' and realized that reading this board rubbed off on me.
