Here's my thoughts:
1) Put the kids in the stern...the bow will move up and down much more violently and they won't be able to keep their balance.
2) Kids are harder to keep hydrated so they need to be drinking a lot of water and/or gatorade
3) Kids need to have life jackets on at all times
4) Dads with kids need to think about wearing a life jacket or kill switch...you don't want something that happens to you to in turn happen to your kids.
5) Don't take them if there's no shade on the boat...really hard to keep them cool and bad for skin both now and later in life.
6) watch those fingers getting injured by fishing line, knives, hooks, etc.
Generally speaking, offshore boats are a nightmare zone for kids, especially small kids, and most of the fish are too big for them to fight anyway. they don't have the stamina that an adult does and you don't want them to be miserable or they won't ever want to go again. Good luck!

One thing not to do is look down or read something. I keep an eye on the horizon and I never get sea sick.
I once started Getting real queasy off the coast of Alska in like 25 foot rollers. The guide pissed me off so bad I started fishing my Arse off and it went completely away.
Look at the horizon and take deep breaths. Drink water and then a occasional beer. Put good sunscreen on before you go to the boat.

Dramamine. Works like a charm. Take two before you go to bed the night before, then two more when you wake up. This works for me every time.
This is the best method with which I've had success.

Whatever meds you decide to take, remember that once you're on the water, keep looking at the horizon. Don't make the mistake of sitting down to read (especially in an enclosed cabin), or staring down at the water. Your brain needs to know where the horizon is.
And don't show up hungover. I've never been seasick. But while working offshore (a long time ago) I saw commercial divers and former navy personnel who had never been sick before get seriously ill. Late-night consumption of adult beverages can cause you to have your first time hugging the rail.

Something to do with the salt but I've went out before and got all jacked up ate a bag of chips and felt better damn near instantly.

Take Bonine the night before, the morning of and at recommended intervals...get the sea band accupressure bracelets(you have to wear on both arms) wear the scopolamine patch and bring a box of ginger snaps cookies to eat throughout the day...I went on a cruise(trashy) for Mardi Gras week and had 35-55mph winds the whole time we were on the boat in the gulf.
worked out fine for me.

1. Don't drink too much the night before.
2. Scopalamine patch behind ear; put on several hours before trip starts

Scopolamine patch is probably one of the better things for it. I've used dramamine with success. I don't take anything anymore. I'm waiting for it to bite me in the arse.

I took some guys out on a charter two summers ago and thought it was a flat day. Got out to the snapper area and was enough that if we wouldn't have caught our snapper in 10 minutes I would have had to get out on the rig for a bit. Now if I am snapper fishing I wear the patch, it works.

Don't know whether to believe this or not and I've never been sea sick but our guide a month ago in Belize told us if you get sea sick to scoop up two handfuls of ocean water and drink it. Maybe you won't be sea sick because youre busy shitting your pants, idk but he swore it works. Told us he got sick his first time out and the captain he was with made him do that and he said he's never been sea sick again.

I completely agree with everything posted here...
-sleep well the night before
-don't get drunk
-eat decent food day before and day of trip
-all of the meds that you mention work well, but dramamine will make you sleepy as hell
-most important...I think that seasickness is about 75% mental...you have simply got to find a way to keep from worrying about being sick.

F that.
I'd rather just jump in for a bit.

Lol. This is true, but I end up doing the opposite of all of these every time I go out.
