I don't think he'd want to over estimate the value for what he's doing. From my understanding of the OP, he was the winning bidder on a hunt that was donated to be auctioned for a school fundraiser. For tax purposes, he can deduct the amount he overpaid above the fair market value...ie, if the winning bid was $8000 and the fair market value of the hunt is really only $3000, he can deduct $5000 as charitable donation.

Don't see any mention of the OP described scenario or similar on that link... Still call total BS on a 30k fine/fee for running over a doe.
