I'm late to the game...

I love an AR-10 in .308. However I would talk to your outfitter about distance of shots. I bait them up real good and then go shoot them over bait with the idea of having a large group within 20 yds then the bullets start flying.

For that set up I prefer a magazine extension tube loaded with 00 and #4 buckshot it's deadly. However the AR-10 works great too.

I have used .223 before unless head shooting they are going to run off.

Tikka T3 Hunter .308 (Wood Stock) $670.00
Remington 700 cdl .30-06 (Wood Stock) $815.00
Winchester Model 70 Featherweight .308 (wood stock) $815.00

Ive been looking at these bolt guns. Are the remington 700 and winchester model 70 that much better than the tikka?

I think its more about the optics you put on your gun, my scope is worth a hell of a lot more than my rifle.

True. Id imagine they all shoot pretty damn straight. Im more or less asking about their action, trigger and fit and finish.

FNAR!! I searched forever and found one for $954.
Can't find them for under $1350 now.
So, $990 is a great deal!!! Do it!!

Last season, I killed 2 deer at 325 yards and 372 yards with it.
Hornady 165 sst ammo.
Both dropped dead.

If not fnar. Get a tikka t3 in 308.
Put a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40. UCC model at dicks for $250.
It is great glass at that price.
That's a badass rifle n scope at under 1000

Yup. I love my FNAR.
It is very accurate. It does not kick much and I can stay on target for a rapid follow up shot.

If I only grab one gun for SHTF, it's my fnar!

Can you get one without the extended mag and without the pistol grip?

a couple of points

.308 is hard to find during ammo scares. 30-06 is easier and arguably had better ballistics for boxed ammo

.308 is a short bolt action while 30-06 is long

Body shots on a pig require 30 cal or larger to reliably recover the hog in my opinion. Earhole shots require .22 or larger.

For body shots on a deer 243 is sufficient.

During the recent past WSM bullets were still available on most shelves but they are much more expensive in general.

For a good starter rifle look at Savage. Their rifles are very accurate out of the box and are generally well built. My only complaint is the butt/recoil pads, although very comfortable and soft are not very durable.

You lying sack. You bought yours after you borrowed mine. I was the only kid in town with one and you had to copy.

you can get a 5, 10 or 20 round mag for it.

The pistol grip is standard as far as I know, never seen one without it

When you take that post kill pic with your Savage rifle laying on the animal knowing you have good whisky at the camp you bought with the 100-200 dollars you saved not buying a different rifle.....

It looks gorgeous.

I'm surprised no one mentioned a 6.8 in an AR frame. Are they not as popular anymore?
