I wouldn't touch one (ugly and cheap looking) but you should be able to find a used Real marlin 30-30 easy enough.

Unless you're a handloader, ammo can get pretty expensive. I also think people also hate that you can't use standard 5.56 mags to feed them. Magpul even made a 6.8 magazine but it requires the use of a larger proprietary magwell. So the appeal is harder to see.
I also think the popularity of the 300BLK now is killing the 6.8 SPC.

My FIL's hog gun is a 6.5 grendel upper made by Alexander Arms + Palmetto State lower. Same thing--Its a bad arse gun but ammo is kinda hard to find. Its also kinda weird he just uses 5.56 mags.
Im on the fence about getting a bolt .308 or stepping it up to an AR-10. Im thinking that it probably makes the most sense to get a bolt .308 given my budget.
