I’ve always gone by the rule that if the redfish aren’t taking your lures, go somewhere else! It’s abkut time and place not bait!

I can't remember a time that my dad ever skunked out on a fushing trip. If the fish weren't biting and he would the on an orange jig head with a piece of shrimp and a 1/4 oz pinch weight about 18-24" up the line. He would always catch a fish.

Johnson gold spoon
Spinner bait
Top water( I like the small Zara spook)
Soft plastics
Live or dead shrimp if you must :(
Minus one crank bait
Finally gulp baits(one day the reds were chasing everything I threw but wouldn't eat. My buddy in the boat started throwing a gulp shrimp on jig head and he caught 14 of our 15 fish limit. I refused to throw the gulp, stubborn is me.)

If I had to pick 4, in this order it’d be
Spoon on leader on a swivel

Shrimp/live or cut crab under a popping cork

A good topwater twitch bait

A spinnerbait or rattletrap

I’ve caught a redfish on a jig head with eyes and no tail. Literally just the jighead. Redfish aren’t picky.

1/4 oz Johnson Gold Spoon
Nemire Red Ripper (gold or black)
Inline spinner (must be weedless)
Matrix shad on weedless hook (shrimp creole)

If I am fishing in an area which is not covered in grass I would also recommend a vudu shrimp (char. tail) fished under a popping cork.

If you are fishing from a kayak for reds use the shallow draft to your advantage and find areas where boats have difficulty going. Reggio is a great launch for kayaks and the area is known for it's redfish. It is very shallow so most boats can not fish it but it does have lots of grass. (which is another plus)

I changed everything around today. I carry 3 baitcasters and a spinning rod. I'm going Gold Spoon, Whopper Plopper, Lazyman Jig Head (Matrix Shad), and a Jig Head (Gulp).

1) Johnson 1/4 oz Gold Spoon
2) Ginger Avenger Inline Spinner #3 Blade
3) Soft plastic on a jig head or texas rigged depending on where you are fishing
4) Buggs Lures can be the ticket when the redfish are being finicky
