Took a friend fishing yesterday. We didn't have a fire day fishing, around 30 keeper bream. I got home and checked facebook and he had posted pics of the fish, the location, and was even telling folks where the beds we had found were on the louisiana fishing page.

I called him and he took the post down. He meant well, he wanted some dude who was taking his kid fishing to have a good day on the water. I guess he didn't realize what telling 30,000 people in a facebook group could do. If it were his fishing spots, fine. It was mine though lol

Don't take friends to your best spots.

Who gives a crap. If you were fishing in public waters, you aren’t the only ones who knows that spot. Let it go.

he told 30k other people where to fish. dropped a pin. he didn't just tell one of his buddies. that's the quick way to ruin a spot

I promise you if it is a good spot thousands of people already knew about it. He didnt move the needle with his post

Those Facebook reports pages are nothing but trouble. Henderson used to never be as packed as it is now. I’ve literally seen that place a ghost town one weekend, then a report gets posted and the next weekend it’s a parking lot on the water.

We might have “that friend”, but you sound like “that guy”

20 years ago, there were trucks lined up to the off ramp. There will always be people fishing in Henderson. A post may ruin “your spot” but that same spot is 100 other peoples’ “spot”

I dont know why people are giving you shite. Good spots take time and effort to find. Giving them out to anyone that will listen is foolish. 10 guys fishing a spot is one thing. 100 is another.

I would be willing to bet that somebody showed you that spot to begin with

Well, 20 years ago I wasn’t living in the area. I start fishing Henderson about 6 or 7 years ago and almost always had the water to myself when I started fishing it. I would only see a handful of other boats normally. The Henderson reports page came around about 4 or 5 years ago if I recall correctly and it’s gotten to the point where I avoid the pace and am finding new areas to fish. I used to post reports. I thought they were a great idea at first. Then I had random people start messaging me asking for spots (not advice. They wanted locations and exact lures) because they had a tournament coming up. It got out of hand. I stopped posting reports. Now when I look at the reports pages it’s just people fighting and bitching about the way everyone else acts on the water and it just discourages me from even wanting to go out there.

I know nothing is “my spot”, that isn’t even the issue for me. Other people’s behavior, predictably, can ruin good things.

I'm not the OP, but I bet you're right. OTOH, I bet the OP didn't find that spot from a FB post. The OP was willing to share his "spot" w/ his friend just like I suspect someone shared it w/ the OP. I don't see why so many are giving the OP a hard time for not wanting to share his "spot" w/ the whole FB community. An honest question to y'all giving the OP a hard time....honestly, do you share your hunting and fishing "spots" on FB or other social media?

I know you're catching flack over your post. But I'll fish by myself before I show someone where to fish . I have a neighbor that's standing on my driveway before I put the truck on park. I don't tell him shite because he goes to work and tells his buddies. He ask me to fish with him a few days ago so I went. Kept asking me here to fish etc. I kept telling him this is your boat I'm along for the ride.
I'm not spending my time finding fish to tell someone else where to go. They can go work to find them just like I did .

Lawds. I won't post my redfish spots online but if a friend was fishing the area I'd point them in the right direction

That's why you tell your friend the "rules of the boat" before you take them fishing. Your boat...your rules.

I've been tons of times with people..I'm a non-boater so I play by their rules.

First rule: I buy the gas.
Second rule: Their spots..I keep my mouth (and keyboard in this case) shut.
All other rules are pretty simple.

yeah, i get that it is public water. there might be 10 other people who know the spot. no need to get 10 or 15 more.

The worst case of folks telling on one of my spots was on a WMA in Mississippi. My cousin and I found a spot that you could only access by water if you were willing to drag your boat/canoe over some rip raps and about 100 yards of woods. There was no sign of anybody having hunted it. We both killed the shite out of deer in there for 2 years before we took another cousin in there. He told one of his buddies who told one of his buddies and now there are climber marks and trash all over that area. I won't hardly show people where to hunt anymore because of that. I'll bring folks fishing but yeah, the social media thing is what irked me. Honestly Pillage I heard about the general area from you on here but he was dropping pins on where specific bream beds were lol.

I don't do it because it's kinda a dick move but a buddy of mine is a member of a few of those FB groups and will make up phony spots. He'll get on the fish somewhere and post the pics to FB but tells everyone some specific place that isn't anywhere near where he caught them.
