Some uppers no longer have the forward assist. In your opinion, is a forward assist more cosmetic than useful?

Outside of a tactical situation I don’t think I’ve ever used one. All of mine have them just because they’re pretty standard, but if I wanted a particular model the lack of a forward assist wouldn’t keep me from buying it. On a decently clean rifle you’ll never need it.

If said sub $1000 rifle has a criterion barrel, I think it can do it.

Nah. You can have a perfect barrel forged out of unobtanium by the ghost of Eugene Stoner and it’s not going to shoot sub MOA with milspec ammo. The barrel is only part of the precision equation; that’s why precision shooters handload.

You could easily buy a PSA blem rifle and change the barrel and stay under $1000.

Best way to build a rifle IMO. Buy a cheaper one and start replacing stuff until you're happy with it.

Thank you. I have an old (early 70's Colt) A1 model that predates the forward assist and does not have one. Most AR/M16s look kinda odd without one.

Helped Rittenhouse take care of business.

Yes, but on my rifles with them I usually punch it once to make sure it hasn't caught the "click" being in the locker with my Benelli.

I’ve shot under an inch with one of my rifles using m193. I thing I have two that could do it.

If a round doesn't chamber you don't really want to go banging it in there unless your life is depending on it.

Any rifle can do it if you shoot enough groups, but that’s not precision, that’s statistics. I could take a Hi Point to the range, shoot 500 rounds of Wolf ammo and I could show you a few cloverleaf targets. A true MOA rifle does it every time, not with 3 round groups, but with 10 round (or more) groups. And I doubt there’s a rifle in existence that can produce consistent sub MOA groups with mil-spec M193. If you can, you should hand load, shrink those groups to .3 MOA and go win every rifle match you care to enter.

I've had my rifle get tied up getting the first round out the clip. Forward assist worked good for that, but it only happened once.

I love my Geissele Super Duty rifles:
-16" in Luna Black
-16" in Desert Dirt Color (DDC)
-11.5" in DDC

All of them come with the Surefire Warcomp flash hider and allow for the quick attachment Surefire SOCOM suppressors, which I've been waiting for since April '21 when I started my tax stamp process to get them.

Love the SSA-E Lightening Bow triggers. Wild boar doesn't stand a chance when you pull the 2 stage 3.5lb trigger with ease.
