G20 with hard cast ammo
Second option because its fun to mix it up, is a good 357 revolver. S&W 686 4" barrel or a Colt Python. Both will hold value, especially if you buy an older one, and are just cool as hell

.41 mag says hold on -
But any 9 and up is more than enough for hogs heck I’ve killed more w a .22 than anything else

I run around the woods with my supressed AR at low ready in full battle rattle waiting for hog zilla to come take a shot at the title.
But serious response to OP is glock 20 or a .357/44/45c revolver with a red dot if he actually plans to kill pigs with a handgun.

Try some different ammo in that .40 caliber.
Buffalo Bore makes some hot rounds. Just make sure your S&W can handle them.

Some people think Gen 4 cyles it better than Gen 5.
Might be their mags, not sure. Just tossing it out.

If I was just gonna have one for carrying around the camp and wanted a new purchase I would go with a 357mag revolver. Three rat shots and three hard cast +p. That would cover everything you needed to kill it’s easy to pack and clean.
I have a Glock-20 10mm and it’s heavy and a pita to carry, and it’s gets filthy riding buggy’s and bikes and tromping through the grass and woods. I get tired of toting and cleaning it and don’t bring it after a few times of not seeing anything and the first time I don’t have it with me I see shite.

The OB lost it's obsession and reverence for The Judge a long time ago.
I haven't.
I haven't.

Honestly, I suck shooting my s&w .40. It’s not a good grip for my hands. I’m much better with a revolver grip or something super ergonomic like Glock. I have a Stoeger STR9-MC as my cc and I’m pretty darn good with that one. Ding the gong at 20 yards with ease

A lot of the Glock folks on forums prefer gen4. Or they suggest a Glock 40

These are excellent points

These people haven't considered if they would like to be shot in the face with one or not

The biggest threat in the woods (other than insects) is likely other humans. I carry a Glock 17 with a 20 round mag.
From a study by TAMU:
While attacks on humans by wild pigs do occur, research showed that these events are extremely rare (Mayer 2013). This study compiled available data from 412 attacks over a 187-year period (1825-2012) involving 427 wild pigs and 665 humans. Seventy percent of documented attacks occurred from 2000-2012.
It is worth noting that 31% of documented “attacks” in this study did not involve any physical contact between the wild pig and victims. Rather, the “attack” resulted in the victim either being chased or treed. While 69% of the attacks documented in the study did involve physical contact, only 4 fatal attacks have ever been reported in the US. Moreover, 3 of these fatalities were the direct result of humans pursuing wounded wild pigs that were being hunted. In hunting related attacks, 48% were from wounded wild pigs.

I ain’t worried about the pigs attacking me. I’m worried about not having a rifle when going to scout etc and I see some that get away.
Or a poacher
Or an escaped inmate.
Also, there’s a less than 1% chance you’ll see a black bear.
