Nobody has been hit to my knowledge and it doesn't upset me to see someone dunk their truck in the gulf. I really haven't seen people acting up very much out there and they close it at 9, so late night drunk shenanigans are cut out.
I guess you weren't smoking and driving on the beach?
I don't smoke anything, but just like the cutting up, I think Elmers was a good place to do it. As long as you aren't hurting anyone else, knock yourself out.

doesn't matter, still gonna launch the boat in fourchon and fish the beaches and laugh at the people who walked
I shoulda listened to that old man in Golden Meadow and bought a fancy boat instead of a fancy F250.
I'll probably just toss the kayak in off the side of the access road and paddle to the pass. It's only a mile.

Dave I thought you were just poking Barf but man, if kids need a place to go cut up or do donuts, it should 100% be on their own land. Drinking and littering may not directly go hand in hand but once the alcohol starts working its only human to feel a bit of apathy towards properly disposing of trash. I do agree that regardless of alcohol, as long as there are people going on the land there will be trash. People are incapable of leaving things how they found them.

That's not really the point. When I bring up Elmer's to people I know they all have the same response. They don't want to deal with people driving around like idiots. Just because nobody has been hit yet, does not mean it will never happen. This is ignoring the fact that dunking a truck in the surf is not only bad for the environment but it discourages people from using the property.

Nope. I wouldn't do that. Especially not with innocent bystanders near by.

If you owned it, it would be a great place for you to act like a child.

IF you want to tear shite up, do it on your own land. I just can't even wrap my head around why someone would think it would be totally safe or cool to go doing doughnuts on Elmer's island. Just because it's sand, doesn't mean spinning around a 7k pound truck doesn't do any damage. They wouldn't let you dump 12 quarts of oil in the surf, so you shouldn't be driving your truck in the surf. Pretty simple, really.

Have you been out there?
In my experiences, nobody is really acting up. They aren't cutting up all over the place. I think it's been made to seem worse than it is. But if someone cuts a donut, I don't have an issue with it. Like I said, people are generally pretty good out there.
The people on Elmers who are littering would be doing it regardless of alcohol or not. I think a small access fee would be the best thing to clean that place up, it would keep the trash out...and the litter.

Last year I was surf fishing and my wife was watching my kid and my godchild building stuff in the sand. This group of wanna be rednecks blaring FGL were fish tailing around and came within feet of running the kids over. Heard my wife scream and I came running out the surf.
The guys were drunk as sh*t, realized what they done when they seen me running and the wife screaming at them. Took off like a bat out of hell. Needless to say if I was in my truck and not her SUV, I would be in jail right now. The clip on my XDM would have been emptied.
They were wearing neon flatbill hats and spray tans.

Actually for Ride the Bull last year there was a guy that got run over and the truck never stopped. Cops stopped me on my way out asking if I had seen a black F150 on the east end and I guess they were just going to wait him out by the entrance since they couldn't go in the sand.

Wow .. This guy was definitely driving a black F-150 also

So they will let people walk through a construction site? Seems kinda shady to me. What exactly are they doing?

Pumping sand onto Fourchon Brach as of now...well... They haven't worked this winter but were last summer/fall. This will extend onto Elmer's at some point, in which case they will either close Elmer's or make a walkpath behind the dune if I had to guess

Ive seen multiple people on multiple occasions cut up on Elmers. Tarpon Rodeo is the worst. Last year, two diesel trucks in 2WD were seeing how much they could rut up the sand without getting stuck. Both were buried to the frame in the sand along with 6 other cars in their ruts when I left. Went fishing that night in the pass and saw more trucks cutting donuts. Im all for cutting up, but do that chit on your own land.

I'm looking at an older truck right now, damn car seat doesn't fit in the back of my silveraydo.
but pops wants a 24 foot blue wave or black jack, so I'm buying his sea hunt.

We should all have an issue with it. We are fighting erosion problems with multi million dollar projects then have dipshits tearing up the beach on purpose. Beaches should not allow any traffic on them.

A dedicated driving lane would be fine if they ever decide to open it back up to vehicle traffic. This would keep people from driving around like assholes and keep trucks out of the surf. Allowing people to drive on the beach does not do anyone any favors.
I would not be surprised if Elmer's never reopened vehicle traffic.
