Shots won’t exceed 400 yds and weight isn’t an issue. Budget of $1500 or less. Will be going on a 6.5 Grendel AR Platform. Would appreciate any input the wise OB may have.

Vanquish
Will do everything you need with a 6,5 Grendel and you can buy ammo with the leftover funds!

I like the new Leto’s mark 4 with that budget. Fov is a little tight but Letos did a good job with this line

Give Arken a look. They are 25% right now. I have the EPL-4 4x16x44 on mine. Very satisfied with it.

I have the 2-10x42 on my 6.8, excellent scope and will be buying the one you mentioned for my 308.

It’s hard to go wrong with that budget honestly. The HD glass from japan is in just about every major brand in that price range and it’s top notch, then you’re just picking features. Decide if you care about FFP vs SFP as that’s the biggest fork in the road, then what you want in turrets/zero stop etc.
My latest purchase was a zeiss conquest v4 and it is very impressive as a low-frills hunting scope.
The maven RS 1.2 and nightforce SHV are other really good options in that price range.

I've been eying the Eotech Vudu for a while now. It pops up used for around $1500 every now and then. I plan on putting one of these on a 6.5 grendel once I get it. One of the guys at work has one and loves it. I've shot with it before and it's pretty nice. I still can't figure out what you're giving up by it being so short.

The focal plane and reticle will probably help you pick the scope. I just went through this for by AR Grendel. I didn't want the complicated Christmas tree reticles and wanted to keep it simple. I ended up with the Vortex Viper HD with the BDC reticle. Super clean reticle and gets me hold points to 400.

Yep, decide on reticle first. More deer get away in low light due to reticles than the light gathering ability of the scope.

I'd look at the Vortex Viper PST Gen II and Nightforce SHV. Or maybe an Athlon Cronus but I believe that's only available in FFP which can be a pain at lower magnification. Same issue with the Arken scopes FFP only to my knowledge.

The deer can be seen in the scope, but reticles can become difficult to see as the light fades. A lighted reticle might be the best choice.

A fancy Christmas tree reticle is usually really busy and fine such that you can lose track of it in low light. A heavy duplex is going to have more contrast and be more visible in low light, but you have to consider the tactacool points you’re sacrificing.

Trijicon accupoint 3-9 comes in way under your budget. Great reticle, good glass, excellent durability which is important on an AR. Semi autos can be tough on scopes.

Man y’all have given some really good options. I’m going to have to do my homework on these. I didn’t realize there were so many good scope options at that point.
One of the things that did intrigue me was the custom dial system on the Leupold. And ever since I was a kid I wanted a Swarovski. But now that I’m an adult I’m trying to really figure out if those top brands are really worth it or if you are paying that much just for the name

You'd have to try really hard to buy a "bad" scope for $1k. As others have said I'd look at reticle choices, especially if you want something illuminated. I really like Trijicon's newish scopes but I don't care for the illuminated options, so while I love my non-illuminated Huron I'd look at another brand if I wanted that feature.
