I think it's just part of the gator culture in Florida. I spent hundreds of hours in water where gators were in Louisiana and never had a bad interaction with one.

Are you a black golfer, though?

No Sonny, it's his medulla oblongata.

If you see a dead alligator on the side of a road, don't stop and examine it. They close their eyes and take in sun for warmth. I was 5 feet away when he gave a low pitch growl without opening his mouth or eyes. I backed away slowly.

The other 4% of attacks are caused by dumbasses who see one on land and try to get a selfie with it.

They didn't need a study.
They could have saved a lot of money and time by asking this board.

Funny, but that was clearly not a real gator.
eta: The best way to fend off an attacking gator isn't an elbow drop but sticking your thumb up its butthole.

Some poor 61 year old lady died earlier this week. Her and her husband paddled their canoe over one, in 2 feet of water.

...and don't walk small dogs by dark water in Florida. I never understand why people think this is a good idea. I do my best to stay lunge-distance away no matter what.
