Truck bed covers

Interested in buying a truck bed cover for my truck. I have a Ram 1500 with Rambox, 5.5 ft. bed. I've done some preliminary research months ago and am seeking some experiences from users who have installed a truck bed cover.
In terms of good, better, best ranking, how would you rank these:
Bakflip
Truck Gear by Line-X
Undercover Flex
and
Lomax Trifold
Retrax Pro
Diamondback
As far as I can tell, here are some of the things that I am most interested in:
- UV resistant
- As scratch, ding resistant as possible
- Locking mechanism (although I understand if someone really wants in, they're getting in)
- Don't want to lose valuable truck bed space

I have the low profile trifold one from Rough Country that I really like. I use it from May thru August. Once huntng season gets here the ARE camper shell goes on. That camper shell is some of the best money I've ever spent towards hunting

According to Bakflip, the models that will fit my truck bed with RamBox are:
MX4
G2
F1
The F1 cover is FRP - fiberglass-reinforced polymer. I don't know if that is just fancy marketing material or not, but it is also the most expensive one out of the 3 models.
The F1 also comes with a 5-year warranty along with the MX4. The G2 comes with a 3-year warranty.

bakflip's will leak. Most of these folding or retractable are going to leak/drip in spots.
I wish i had just did the whole fiberglass over the lip covers on my truck way back when. Only thing that kept me was i put a 4 wheeler back there sometimes. i have a retractable cover now, its a bit better than previous trifold bakflip.

I have the bakflip F1. mine is 11 years old. It's certainly seen better days but I've put it through hell. I'd buy it again.
Ill say this, if you leave if you leave if folded up too long, the fiber glass will wear where it rubs. So, don't.

I got the F1 about 5 years ago. It is starting to show its age, you can tell the fiberglass is wearing. Starting to see white through the black exterior paint. Not sure what the other models look like after 5 years.
In my experience this bedcover keeps about 80-90% of rain water out (I installed the drains for the rails.) I have beat it up pretty good. Had it folded all the way up, drove down the interstate, didn't secure it and it folded out, slammed down and latched shut. Its out of alignment a little now and the latches are a little sticky but still works fine.

I just got the bakflip mx4 for my carbon pro bed. Laid it all out to put in, then read directions, there is disassembly, drilling into the bed sides and about 20 little clippys. It is back in the box, going to have to pay an installer but have no real hope it will be tough enough mounted to those little flimsy looking clips. We will see.

I went through this process last year and decided on the Undercover Armor Flex. It's made of polymer, not aluminum, and it's Line-X coated top and bottom. Bone dry also.
I have a few friends with MX4's and one with the G2 and the Armor Flex is superior to those, although I do have a friend who has had his MX4 for 5 or 6 years and it's still going strong, but has some dents and scratches.
The Armor Flex is a few hundred bucks more than the Bakflip MX4 most places online, but the out the door price on tonneaucovered . com was less than the MX4 on other websites. Give them a call and get a price. Ordering process was a breeze. No shipping fees or tax in Louisiana, not sure about Texas.
Whatever you settle on I recommend going with one with a back seal that allows you to close the tailgate with the cover closed. Some tri-folds require you to raise the cover to close the tailgate.

A.R.E. if you do not want water to get in bed. I have had one on my truck for over ten years.

That must be truck specific. I had mine installed on my f250 in about 15 min.

+1 on the Armor flex. I went this route because of the line X coating.

What do you like about it? I’m considering getting an RSI smart cap put on mine for a move up north

I have the bakflip mx4 for about 5 years. I like it and would buy another one. But I will say we had some small hail a few years back that didn’t do anything to my truck but have 15-20 little dents in the cover. I was a little disappointed in that.
But as far as keeping water out and functionality, I’d buy another.

I put a MX4 on my new ram w/ramboxes and have been very happy with it.
Fits the bed well and haven’t had too much issue with leaks. (There is a little gap at the gate where the tailgate meets the ramboxes that has potential to leak, but that’s a truck design issue and not the covers)
I like that I can fold it 2/3’s of the way so as to use the bed for taller items and still be able to see out the back window.

quote:just ordered one last week for the gladiator. I have no idea when it will come in because of the custom order. I can’t wait for it to arrive. I have a Decked drawer system in the bed. I use the vehicle as an everyday driver and travel/camping/hunting vehicle.
ARE camper shell goes on.
I can’t wait to be able to get my kayaks and paddle boards back on the water.
