Limbs above trunk sections are NOT from the tree in question.

There are about five different types of trees in the entire pile and there IS a white oak just out of the picture.

That’s why I was looking for some OB expertise on the trunk section (s) in question

Take a clear close up of the end grain then. Smell it, does it smell like a sweet gum. Bark looks post oaky to me.

When that happens I don't hesitate to go claim some trunk portions to cut up and cook with. Get you some!

You need to go back to internet question posing 101 to learn to articulate shite like this in original posts

Cut you an 18-20" piece and try to split it, if it lays open with a couple of whacks it's oak. If all is does is make a mark with water coming out and it doesn't split, it's gum.

You can split gum but it's super hard, wood is soft but it just won't split.

The leaves are absolutely 100% white oak, the bark and logs look like white oak also.
Can't see much reason the logs would be piled up with something other than the branches that came from them.

Smell them. Oak has a distinctive smell when fresh cut.

ETA: Should have read thread before posting.

If you know what fresh cut oak smells like that is going to be your easiest way to ID in that pile.

We need clear pics of the grain to settle this. I’m sticking with post oak.

It's White Oak. The bark in white oak is not always the shaggy, peeling appearance that others have mentioned. That's a characteristic of older trees. Younger white oak, like the one pictured, doesn't typically develop that loose bark appearance, and has a tighter bark.

The likelihood that the trunk is from a sweetgum while EVERY SINGLE branch in the picture is from a white oak is nill...it ain't happening. Where'd all the sweetgum branches and leaves go then?

And a sweetgum of that size would almost certainly have deeper fissures in the bark that seen in the picture.

The 2 logs are sweet gum 1000%. The leaves in the back are oak, but there are sweet gum leaves lower just above one of the logs.
