They didn't get much bigger so don't expect a dramatic jump, but they will grow an inch or two. How close is your camp to Alcorn State?

Its not a huge problem with us. Most bucks are normal but these type do exist in our herd.

I've hunted close to it before with a friend of mine. He had a very good place in Anna's Bottom that produced some really good deer. I wouldn't fret too much over the brow tines, some have good ones some don't. I killed a 9 point 3 years ago with my bow that scored 155 3/8 but its because his brows were 7 inches and 6 1/2 inches. That's same year my dad killed a 158 that was a monster but had weak brow tines. It would have easily been in the mid 160's with 5 inch brow tines. The deer had 26 inch beams and 6 inch bases. We hunt about 8 miles east of Natchez off of Liberty Road.

Know that area well. You have to be really close to a cousin of mine that lives out that way.

Maybe so, Jeanette Road runs through our place. When are you planting your plots? We did ours this morning so hopefully we get some rain in the next two weeks. There are so many acorns this year that the plots will likely be useless until January. We will still see deer on them but the deer won't have to go far to fill up.

We wait until 2nd or 3rd week in October. Several reasons including what you refered to as well as army worms and wanting to have fresh tender grass into the winter.

The only reason we planted this early is because we have to kill a pile of does an I want to shoot them with my bow. We have two small plots that when the grass breaks the surface are guarantees for seeing plenty of does. Plus, we had a friend that was free with his tractor so it worked out.

............when the getting is good

We never kill "enough" doe according to our bioligist. He wants us to kill like 50 a year.

We have almost 3000 acres and the biologist wants 50-60 a year taken off. We only have 9 members so it's hard to shoot that many. We drop around 30-35 a year. Most of us live near Hammond so it's not like we can hunt every day either.

Hammond to Natchez= no really good way to get there.

When coming from that way I normally cut across through Liberty to HWY33 but its still a speed trap.

It takes right at 1 hour and 45 minutes. That stretch between Liberty and Gloster is crawling with cops. I've never gotten a ticket, but I've been in the truck with 3 different people that have. They just pop over the hills and your screwed!

I got pulled over by a 1/2ton extended cab unmarked chevy between Gloster/Liberty once. I asked if he was a deputy sherrif because the truck had a water department magnet on the side. He said he was a county constable, chief of the volunteer fire department, worked for the water company, and built cabinets. He knew my great uncle so it was all good.

I caught that SE deal but sometimes I am told I come off as a dick when I joke around about things like that. So I just moved on but it relieves me you found it as well.
