Tracing handgun purchase to original owner

So I have a handgun that I purchased approximately 10 yrs ago. It has been on the shelf for most of that time and totally has about 1000 rounds through it. After taking it out for a couple range trips over the last few weeks, I noticed an issue where it does not release the magazines completely. After some research, this was a known issue with this particular gun bearing SNs in the range of mine.
I contacted their customer service and they are willing to service it (probably replace it) if I can prove I am the original owner.
I will look later, but chances I have the original receipt are slim, so my question is, is there some way I can prove this otherwise? Can I somehow access how the background check was run and would it show for what particular reason? Would Academy be able to access some kind of record of firearm purchase?

I would just send it in claiming to be the original owner. It's up to them to disprove it.

what manufacturer? maybe hit them up and call them out on social media. that is bs.

Is the place you bought it still around? Because I think they have to keep the original purchasers info on file by law.

Curious, but what brand is giving you such a hard time about it? I know HK, for example, says this, but they won't turn you away with a warranty issue if you're not the original owner.

They won't run a trace for you. They still have your 4473 but 99% chance they will not track it or the receipt down for you.
Send that bitch back and tell them to fix it. Total bullshite if they refuse. If they don't fix it, tell us so that we can never buy anything from them

It is a CZ.
And yes, I bought it at Academy.
Their reasoning is that when the issue was first discovered, they were replacing the guns experiencing this issue with a new one. People found this out and started buying used ones and sending them in to get a new one at a used price. While I am sure this happened, it still dosent change that the issue did exist.

I don't know if Academy would give you that proof if you asked them but they might. Not sure how that all works.

Wow. Kinda shocked at that.

None of which is your issue. They should repair or replace, no questions.

You're not wrong.
Seems like no matter if you're the original owner or second hand owner they shouldn't care. They sold a faulty product and should replace it regardless if you're the 1st or 10th owner.

I know there are probably some dumbass gun store owners that would give out this information, but nobody should tell you anything about the previous owners of that gun. Send it to CZ, just tell you are the original owner. If they ask where you bought it... Academy. They shouldn't expect you to keep a receipt for a decade.

This is my feeling as well. If they deemed them faulty back then, they should today as well. Hoping it goes that route.

Ask the manufacturer if they will assume the liability of shooting a gun with a known defect that they will not repair.

Tell them that you bought it at academy. They will be able to run the serial number and see that they did in fact ship that gun to Academy.
If that doesn't work, tell them your lawyer will be sending them a nice letter.

Update: I was actually able to find my receipt with all the original paperwork from the gun. Replied to his email with a copy of it and will see how they respond.

Tell them its a safety issue and you cannot release the magazine to make the weapon completely safe. See what they say....
