A budy of mine has been raising eight toy goldendoodles and training them to go rabbit hunting. Anyone else rabbit hunt with these dogs before? He says they are the real deal and better than beagles.

Great idea, run a poodle through thick brush. Good luck picking all the shite out of theirs coats. Probably have to get the ears and tails permanently removed.

I have a full size and she can’t do anything at all. Nothing. Good house dog though.

Unless the toy variety had a different coat than the standard I would imagine they don’t make it four foot into the first briar patch. Gonna be stuck like Velcro.

I guess no one has ever heard of a trimmer. You can shave those dogs down to manageable situation

Yeah I guess so just seems like a lot of effort for a breed that’s not bred for a specific line of work. All the breeds for the most part have been bred to excel at a certain activity. A goldendoodle is a must of two breeds that were not bred for chasing rabbits it all.
But to each his own

That sounds like a book of bad ideas. You are combining two retriever breeds to run rabbits.

My neighbor where we are building a house raises and trains rabbit dogs. I might see how my dog shakes out at that, he's pretty good at whatever I've asked of him so far.

You can use a sedan to haul 2x4's, but if I did a lot of 2x4 hauling, I'd own a truck.

My wife and kids have a golden doodle puppy. I won’t claim it as my own. I’ve never seen a bigger puss of a dog.

Okay so I went hunting this morning with my buddies pack of toy goldendoodles and I can say that they are rabbit chasing machines. Most of them were really spot on, a couple were caught up at times in the sticker bushes but he had two that would grab the damn rabbit and start running with it which would cause the other damn dogs to start chasing them with the rabbit in their mouths. Scale of 1/10 I would give the good ones a solid 9 but two of these dogs I would give a 3 out of 10.

How the frick do you make a toy golden doodle... it’s already a walking vet bill with the propensity to have consistent health issues... now you are trying to breed and dwarf 2 full size dogs into a toy?

How about just buy a beagle? Maybe a spaniel or sorts... let me guess he is selling it for $800-$1200 a pup with no guarantees..

Was this high fence rabbits or feedstore rabbits? Or did fideaux chase and catch a couple of real wild swamp rabbits? If they caught wild swamp rabbits and fetched them up he may be on to something.

My sister in law as a toy goldendoodle. All of the smarts have been bred out of that thing to get it that small. It's the dumbest dog in the world, so I have a hard time imagining any of them being capable hunters.

I believe they mate a toy poodle with a golden retriever. You will get varying sized dogs out of the litter. The smallest dogs are the most expensive. Like $2400

ETA LINK

Sorry 3 grand.

Poodle and Golden Retriever are consistently rated in the top 5-10 of smartest dog breeds. I could see a doodle trainable...Both have hunting histories. Poodles were duck dogs in Europe before coming to US.
