I never said I was an expert. Speaking of the two, since they are both sonar, can you get down scan through the US2 (Universal sonar) that is built into the foot of an ultrex?

I figured you would sacrifice side scan, but seeing as how I just learned today that down and 2D are actually still both sonar... Will down scan still work without hose clamping a total scan transducer to the foot of the trolling motor?

That is an amazing root ball and tree. I'm guessing it is not the 1960s original trees that were submerged. Is this a tree that fell off one of the bluffs and submerged within the past few years? I do see the other stand up trees on the right side of the screen.

I honestly don't know, but I thought about exactly what you are asking. I just found it one day idling out of a cove towards a boat lane. Yesterday was the first time I passed over it from different directions trying to get an idea of exactly what I was looking at. I thought it was the tree top and limbs, but now that you say root ball, that makes sense to. It's well preserved whatever it is.

You can see the smear on the left side of the image. I was spotlocked fishing the pile and fish, but my transom was over the trunk. When I cranked up and bumped it in gear to leave, that's the image I got of all the fish and structure.

It was really rewarding as that was what I was trying to do, and you get confirmation as soon as you move off of it. That's the advantage of live scope and the risk of doing it this way with down scan. There is always a little doubt, but if you don't get a bite pretty quick, you've messed something up and you have to swing around and reset.

I've been liking regular sonar with mid chirp. I can't get a good palette with downscan on my simrad in the bright sunlight.

Not sure on that one, but my Motorguide has a built in that works for 2D and down scan with my Garmin Echomap. Easily as good of a job as my 3 in 1.

Nice. I'm looking for a 12" for my bow. Right now I have the 9" at the helm, but a ram mount that I can turn it 180 degrees and look at it over my shoulder if I'm on the trolling motor.

The real decision will be Elite FS, step up to an HDS or just save my money and get the live scope on the bow.

You won't get a better pic from HDS. I have had 3 different Carbons including a 12 and two different 3 in 1s. 8 never got as good of downscan as you posted. If you want to catch the perches, Livescope is the answer. It's a blast.

Why don't you get Josh to tune those up for you.

I had one in the dash of my old Champion with a through hull transducer I sold recently. Still worked. Great for running on plane and needing depth.

I repositioned my transducer (another thing that helps get the best image) after reading some tips about it and now get down scan when running on plane.

I just got the ultrex this year. I'd love to get a live scope, but it ain't in the budget this year

Bass boat I bought had the terrova on it. I upgraded to the ultrex with the livescope. I do not like the terrova for how I like to fish. It's currently forsale if anyone is interested.

I don't know Josh. I've been wanting to hire one of the TB guys for that and ledge lessons.

That is Josh Sikes, he is your man. He posts here sometimes and lives in Pineville. He runs bent rods guide services out of toledo bend. Y'all can meet there or Indian Creek if you are only wanting to dial in the units. I would imagine IC is deep enough to adequately dial them in. He is as good as you will find.

I’m not going to lie, I used mine for a month or two before I figured out how to tap the power button and adjust brightness.

Saw your post on the owners group as well, most of those guys know their stuff and are very helpful. I wish i could get my TI dialed in that well.

How much length between each knot on your rope do you run to know how deep you are? Just picked up a new rope yesterday.

About 12 fathoms.

I was way down on your end of the lake catching these fish.
