Fished the monthly Ft. Polk trny Sat at TB rec. Slow, slow. Caught 7 but had 5 keepers. Wind hurt us on the east side.

Almost all our fish at Cane came off of weightless Senkos with the Poche spinner on the tail. I threw lots of other stuff and caught exactly two fish in two days on something other than the Senko.

The eagles are bringing chinqs and lit up males to the tram nest. Time to hit the two lakes. I think our best pics were from late March though.

I can confirm the information on Toledo Bend last weekend is correct.
We also saw the schools of shad in the main channel of the cove in the mornings with bass laying on the bottom below them. We tried a lot of baits and couldn’t get a bite.

We pounded the banks in the mornings fishing structure in 2-10 feet of water and couldn’t get a bite.
Later in the afternoon we went back to try the banks and caught 7 on Friday, fishing structure in the same 2-10 feet.
The fish we caught were 10-15 feet off the bank.
We saw several beds right up on the bank but there wasn’t any fish on any of them.

Saturday they had a tournament on the lake and boats were moving all over the lake all day and you could tell they were struggling. Pulled up the results of the tournament and only 14 teams weighed fish and 65 teams didn’t weigh a fish.

Need the water to get in the mid 60’s and it will be on!

Didnt go this past weekend and didnt hear anything good from any of my podnas that did go. I plan to be there Friday and Saturday as of now. Friday is gonna be the day and Saturday before lunch. Stay away from the banks. Concentrate on that 5ft -15ft range. Hug the bank but fish away from it.

Will be my plan starting tomorrow. That water is rarely fished.

Friday all day and Saturday until about 2pm was amazing. I don't know how many we caught. There was 6 of us and we filleted fish 2 hours both days. We kept all the 2-2.5 lb bass and all the white perch. We caught some big arse WP on soft plastics just crazy. Went back after the WP with hair jigs and smoked em around visible structure. Took a quick pic and let the bigger bass we caught go. Fished the Outlaw yesterday and the biggest was a lil over 7 for one of our crew, and 4 of the 6 of us weighed in a 4+ and took home a lil folding money. It was cold and miserable but they bit.

We literally bounced from tree to tree in 10-15 foot with those jigs. fish about 2-3 minutes and move to the next tree. They were there and hit it or they didn't. Covered as many trees as we could. We learned pretty quick if they didnt hit it first couple jigs down or casts to it. Just move on to the next one. Areas that had a lil grass of course had a better fish. Back of Mil Creek left side pockets was the most consistent. Second best was what we call ice box cove. Its the pocket behind the beach at Texas islands west side. Not much structure in there but better grass and WP quality was better

Freaking Senkos are one of the best baits ever made, I've been fishing all my life and have never found a bait they like better in the spring.

A rogue in February is my favorite but a weightless senko is easily 2nd place. I just have a hard time getting a day with low enough wind. Seems to be blowing like a bus load every time I go in the spring.

I had some of the best trips of my life down there Memorial Day weekend when there was deep grass right after the beach. You could put it on your calendar. When the grass left, I could not catch one.

The past few days have been crazy good. We are catching 50+each day with a lot of big fish. I caught a DD yesterday and one of our other boats caught a 9lber Friday. Not to mention all the 4-7lbers we’ve caught. Creek swings in 18-22’ with a big crankbait!

Y'all don't freak out if you see a little drone boat out there. It's just surveying for a new fishing map.

quote:

Sabine Parish – Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell wanted to notify the public of surveys that will be performed on Toledo Bend Lake over the next three months.

According to company representatives, bathymetric surveys will be conducted with remotely operated unmanned surface vessels (USVs), also known as autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), or “drone boats.” The USVs will follow pre-programmed routes, conducting a remotely operated and monitored bathymetric survey to create a new high-resolution fishing map that will be available next year.

What’s the word on Toledo? Is the bass spawn over? How should I been fishing with what? Heading down with the family this week. Staying south of big bass marina. Gonna try for some bass. And we have sac guy trip lined up as well.

Any one sac-a-lait fish recently? Headed up next Thursday for a weekend of golf and fishing. Looks to be a cool front coming down, so curious if that will impact the bite.

Went with guide (Living the dream) last weekend. Overall slow on the crappie. We had 37, top boat had 65. Water was high after about 10 inches of rain that week. They opened spillway so hopefully coming down and clearing up.

Buddy of mines mom caught an 8 pound bass on a sac trip as well this week.
