To the pioneer 1000 fans, bad news

Now the frickers are catching fire. Contact your dealer. Guy in our club is getting a new one given to him after his caught fire.
Recall is now going on.
Should have bought a Viking
Better yet, honda has known about the issue since 2016
ETA: this is not his unit, this is a 2016 model that went up. His is an 18.

I just ran a check for 2016-2018 Pioneer 1000 recalls on Honda's recall lookup section and only found a door latch recall notice. I've got a 2016 and it's been nothing but reliable. It's not the most powerful or sexy SxS but I enjoy it.

It's a heat shield under the seat. I had to have the clutch replacement done on mine last September and they did the heat shield when they did it. The dealer told me that Honda was not sending out notices. I had a Honda mechanic tell me about both of the repairs/upgrades when my clutches burnt up so I asked the dealer. She said unless the customer asked they were directed to not inform anyone of the issues by Honda, but if the customer asked to then tell them. You may want to call your dealer and specifically ask.

This recall went out yesterday. Full stop sale on all pioneer 1000s.
Basically the heat rises, one cylinder starts to misfire, then a small fore starts.
Once again, this is a full STOP SALE.
Not the previous heat in cab issue. My buddy's bike already had the new clutch and cab insulation.

I’ve been thinking of a can-am Defender. I just have a difficult time spending 16k on something I’m going to leave at the camp and use 8 times a year.

Other than having no low lange and no power, the 700 pioneer is an awesome sxs.
The one I've really been interested in lately is the kawasaki. They are getting much better these days.
The 850 yamaha is a complete shite fest. Idk what they were thinking.
My 1000 yamaha has been bulletproof for over 6500 miles. And I beat on it. But it's worthless for this area.

What is the 850 Yamaha? I thought they only had 700 Viking and wolverine and 1000 ( not sure of name)

850 is there new 4 seater wolverine. 70hp...but a turd. Local dealer lent me one hoping I would buy one, I didn't even put 10 miles on it. It's small inside (I'm a big guy, but a 160lb guy would feel cramped). The back seats have no foot room. And everything rattles.
The Viking is a 686 hi comp motor. Basically the last generation motor. The wolverine is the 708 motor with a twin cam set up. Good power, but around 10k milea you'll need valve seals. Something most people never worry about
Yxz is their 1000. 3cyl bike engine with 5speed manual trans. 111hp easily bumped to 130hp with a tune for premium, intake mods, and full exhaust.
Will do 0-100 real quick.
Mine tops out around 113 on GPS.
It isn't a fun experience at that point.

Man I never knew they had an 850 now.
When you say it’s s turd, you mean not powerful or not fun? Seems like that would be a nice engine to put in the grizzly though
Although I can’t complain about my 2014 grizzly 700. I love that machine and it has plenty enough power as is for me.

Tuned wrong. Not strong off the line. Doesmt even feel like it has the torque of polaris's old 800.
Says it can pull a lot, I just don't see how.

Hey man I just bought a 2018 with 40 hrs on it. It burst into flames before I made it through a full tank. Honda tells me that bc they cannot determine how the fire started they aren’t going to do anything about it. Is there any way you can put me in touch with your buddy? Did he have to get a lawyer? I’m struggling to find a lawyer that wants to take them on. If anyone else has anything helpful please shoot me an email. jjoiner38@yahoo.com
