Yep that’ll be in the back of my mind when I’m in Montana this year. Nah I’m just messing with you, I would feel extremely comfortable with my 28 Nosler on any animal, though. .300 win mag, also. Both will kill anything.

I’m having my buddy carry an AR10 and we will both be carrying 10mms

Blow everyone's mind and go with a 6.8 Western!

even better, a 338 Win Mag

Downshift takes 110 lbs marsh deer with these. Sometimes squirrel too.

I have the Tikka CTR in 6.5 and also a Tikka Superlite in .308. I took the 6.5 to Mississippi because the stands I hunted had very long ranges. The first doe I shot with it came out around 100 yards and the exit wound was a good 4-5" blowout hole. That was using Hornady 143gr ELD-X PH ammo. I killed another doe and a buck with it the same year but they were both around 300 yards away, and didn't have near that bad an exit. When I hunt here in LA at much shorter distance its .308 everytime now. The 6.5 rarely gets used depending where I go. Even then the .308 Superlite is much more comfortable. 6.5 is good for range but I have a 700P .308 that I can outshoot it with. I have a lot more range time with it though.

Tikka Superlite in .308

Superlite is just the Lite Stainless with a fluted barrel, correct? I have a light stainless in .243, no flutes, and just picked up a .270 stainless fluted but with the wood Hunter stock. I'm curious to see if the flutes decrease cool-down time when I'm at the range.

Yes, fluted barrel is the only difference that I know of. Mine is the black synthetic stock, stainless barrel. Also, how many rounds are you rackin' to be worried about cool-down lol. Just messin' with ya, I can't speak to that as I don't think I've ever fired two consecutive shots out of it within at least 30 seconds of each other.

Did the salesman tell you that?

No, classes in heat transfer told me that, but it has nothing to do with why I bought it. Tikkas are hard to come by right now and I've had my eye out for a .270 for a while and this one was available. If it had a blued barrel and plastic stock then I'd have a .270 with a blued barrel and plastic stock but it had a wood stock and fluted stainless barrel so that's what I ended up with.

Ha. I took some of those classes, too. It’s more fun to have another gun to shoot during cool-down than to sweat those extra 10-30 seconds. The Superlite is a great rifle!
