Are all pump shotguns on the same level? Seems like not a whole lot can go wrong with the pump action. Thoughts on using this for home defense? IDGAF about the color.

They are absolutely not all made equal. Like everything, you get what you pay for. Failure to feed is common on pieces of shite cheap ones

Good to know - what is the gold standard home defense shotgun? Remington 870?

Not anymore.
Though they claim they've fixed the production issues from the shite runs they had for years.

That sxp would be fine.

My advice is to find a 20g youth with extended magazine. Barrel is short for ease of maneuvering and anyone can shoot a 20g.

I’m a supporter of Winchester shotguns. Can’t speak to the pumps but their automatics are butter.

Unless you train, train and then train more…semi-auto better than pump (even though “more reliable”) in a high stress environment aka life-threatening situation.

Mossberg 940 Tactical…Benelli 1301 Tactical…way better as you have one less factor (loading) to focus on under stress.

Benelli M4 and beretta 1301.

The "reasonably affordable" gold standard pump is mossberg 590. You could also get a maverick 88 and be out the door under $300.

I think buying a special gun, with special ammo for a special situation, is pretty ridiculous, and a total waste of money. The chances of that particular situation occurring is probably close to zero. The thief doesn't care if I shoot him with #3 buckshot or my .45 ACP, and I certainly don't care A home defense weapon is the one you have in your hand at the right time.

That used to be my thought until my Mossberg 835 jammed and would not eject. Had to hit the butt on a tree holding onto the fore grip to get the shell out.

That happened twice.

I bought an M4.

Oh, please don't be one of those people that think "I'll just rack this shotgun and the bad guys will run..."
All you're doing is letting the bad guys that don't know the layout of your house, exactly where you are.

*Raises hand

Granted we own three pistols and two ARs, so this is a last line of defense scary gun for the fiance right now. Honestly if I like shooting shotguns I'll get a nicer one in a year or so.

Working on it ha. Building an AR, and then probably picking up a 9mm carbine. That will probably be it for a while, unless I see a decent revolver on sale.

On and the .308 Jakl whenever it comes out.

If you can find one, a Remington Police 870 2 3/4 inch trade in.

Or a newer 870 Remington Police Magnum.

May be wrong but read that the Police Magnums came off the Wingmaster assembly line.
