If youre from upnorth I understand tgat part seems odd, but it gets near instinctual after a while. The head shape and coloration is a dead giveaway.

I treat all but king snakes like cobras...and I smack em with a good sized stick.

So, how do you know the snake you are grabbing and begging to bite you isn't venomous? How can you tell quick enough that they are harmless?

If you know your snakes, it's as easy as knowing a pitbull from a poodle. Most bites really don't hurt that much - they just hit you quickly and let go. Occasionally though, you get a king snake or rat snake that grabs you then tries to swallow you and won't let go. Biggest I've been bitten by was a 6'4" rat snake - that hurt a tad more.

If she'll handle wild snakes like that, just imagime what she can do with a one-eyed trouser trout.

Seems like a great opportunity to study the effectiveness of ones bird shot on water snakes to me.

Same way you can tell a fiesta isn't an f150 - by looking at it.

I'm not a proponent of violence against women, but someone needs to slap some sense into that chick.

Isn't that the same chick Mike Rowe did the show with on Lake Erie? She's a biologist and they don't have much other than those nonpoisonous ones where she hunts them.
