Let's not stray away from our crossbow hating. Its something I enjoy reading and its a pillar of the OB. Crossbows are for disabled people.
I think we can all agree that anything short of showing up in the woods butt naked is using technology to your advantage, as every human has done for all of history.

Thanks for the "positive" input for those who have chimed in.
I'm guessing I've probably taken 12 deer with my bow over that time. Plenty of misses and now 3 lost ones. I have never been the "only gonna kill one with my bow" guy. I love to bowhunt but losing an animal makes be sick. The buck I shot last weekend I'm sure is still alive with a shoulder wound. There are at least 3 potential things that I think could have gone wrong and I'm not sure exactly what happened but I think my bow might have hit the edge of the blind enough to affect the shot. The doe the previous weekend was no excuse.... 19 yards broadside and I thought I hit her perfect.... turns out the shot was bad High I guess. Meat on the arrow and not much blood. Never a lot of blood on the trail either. That is the shot that makes me sick... 5-10 years ago I would make that shot 10/10 times.....
Getting older sucks
As the weekend gets closer I'm likely headed back out Sat. morning after some practice at the house this evening.

Anyone made this move and if so what brands should I be looking at and which ones should I avoid? Not wanting to go super cheap but not wanting to break the bank on a $3500 pkg either.
You can get some high quality crossbows for under $1k easily. Wicked Ridge was my choice as it's a sub-brand of Ten Point. The only downside is that they do have proprietary bolts/arrows, but they're not any more expensive than usual.
If nothing else, stick with made in USA. The imported ones are fine for true beginners or smaller game, but will not hold up over time. Also, maintenance is key.

You practice shooting from a blind at a foam deer in the brush ??

Get it if you want it. Most people here spend their days arguing over ballistics then climb in their box stand forty yards from a feeder and shoot a deer with a rifle. frick em

that is one of the first videos i watched when i heard about the airbow. after watching it, i went to the end of the internet trying to find out more information about it. after doing the research, i learned they werent legal in texas at that time. that wouldnt change until 2019. i still want one. now that its legal, i will probably purchase one soon.
thanks for that link.
You're welcome. I went to the Texas "Airgun" map. Dang. You baws can hunt practically anything. The list of animals has a lot of detail. Georgia is more open to Airbows also. You can even kill black bear with them. Here's an example of the instructions for Whitetail deer in Georgia and Texas.
GEORGIA
Whitetail Deer .30 caliber and larger (including arrow shooting airguns -- shooting broadheads)-- Only during primitive weapons hunts / primitive weapons seasons and firearms seasons
TEXAS
Whitetail Deer Pre-charged pneumatic airguns must fire a projectile of at least .30 caliber in diameter and at least 150 grains in weight with a minimum muzzle velocity of 800 feet per second or any combination of bullet weight and muzzle velocity that produces muzzle energy of at least 215 foot-pounds of energy. Arrow-shooting airguns cannot be used during archery season.

Made the move after shoulder injury 10 years ago. I’ve not lost an animal since and I love being in the woods as long as I can. I bought at Ten Point Titan XL back then and still use it. The newest selections are unbelievable. Do it and don’t look back.

Hunting is declining nationwide. The one area seeing an influx of new hunters is in the crossbow area. As hunters we should be welcoming those persons or allow the anti-hunting population to win the war on hunting.

Thats not entirely true. Multi generational Attitude changes and in your face defense challenges do much more harm. Posting pictures , public display like driving thru town with the 4 wheeler in the truck bed, dead deer on the 4 W rack, instead of putting the deer down in the bed. Immediately, already here, i bet chests are puffing up, keyboards are being pulled closer, many ready to respond
" F the pub if they don't ....
Boom - there is the problem. Just like the ccw bill to conceal for all, no permit. That was never going to pass.
As far as the xbow, long time bowhunters aging, developing medical issues, or even healthy bowhunters, to me its all ok to add a xbow to the tool chest, still using a compound same time for those who can. They all put their time in and earned it.
Regular bowhunting should be a prerequsite for xbow usage.

Just got a compound handed down to me and I love shooting it. It is my first bow so I'm still working on hitting the bullseye consistently. Obviously I'm not going to use it in the woods till i am comfortable hitting my spots. With that being said, I'm using a crossbow til then so i can maximize my time in the woods.

How much time did you FIRST put in using traditional archery equipment before using a compound bow? Do you still use your longbow or recurve with wooden arrows?

Actually, been there, done that. I have 2 custom made recurves , one i am willing to sell. I do not shoot them any more . They tore up my left upper back, and right middle finger sattigal band. Had to lay them up.
But i still do shoot my compounds. Use a Stan Extinction 2 release so my fingers get a break.
Do have an xbow too, but full speed ahead with the compounds.
Hope this answers your Q.

Easier but more dangerous and harder to cock. Unless you have a decocker you will have to shoot to unload.

oh man are you going to get it from these guys. Just do it.

So less crowded public lands and declining lease prices? Sign me up. Both shoulders operated on, one needs it again. Still using PSE with Nugent blades. But my dad didn’t raise a little bitch.
